LIV Golf pro confirms he'll hurl abuse at BMW PGA as a spectator: "I'll see if I can get thrown out"
LIV Golf pro Richard Bland has joked he's going to try and get thrown out of Wentworth after confirming he's going to flagship event as a spectator.
LIV Golf's Richard Bland has joked he's going to hurl some abuse at his former colleagues when he attends the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth later this year.
Bland confirmed he's going to the flagship event on the DP World Tour in the most recent edition of the Fairway to Heaven podcast.
The Englishman no doubt would've loved to have played in the event but is persona non grata on the circuit having jumped to the breakaway tour in 2022.
He last played the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in the 2020-2021 season - the same year he finally claimed his maiden title at the age of 48 - where he finished in a tie for 57th.
Since then, to say Bland has made a bit of coin by playing well would be an understatement.
The Cleeks member has just won back-to-back senior majors and looks like he could very well retain his spot in the league by finishing inside the top 24 in the standings.
He has previously admitted whenever his LIV career comes to an end he'll hang up his clubs for good.
Bland told podcast hosts Jerry Foltz and Su-Ann Heng that he's been asked by a few pals if he wants to watch some golf for a change.
LIV's season will have concluded by then and therefore Bland will be at a loose end.
"I'm going to the BMW this year," he told the pod. "I'm going to walk around Wentworth with a couple of mates this year so I'm looking forward to that.
"A few of my mates said, 'Do you want to go and watch some golf', and I went, 'Yeah it'll be quite fun to go and watch a bit of golf I think.'"
He added: "I'll go and see a few of the guys from the DP World that I've not seen for a couple of years, you know, shout a bit of abuse at them and see if I can get thrown out.
"I'm sure whenever my LIV career is done I'd love to maybe come out and see it from the other side.
"As players we only see it from the inside looking out."
Bland was among the first wave of golfers to sign up to play LIV Golf events.
He has maintained ever since that the only reason why he jumped ship was because of the money on offer.
Bland has previously said he did not receive a signing-on bonus whereas the likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith are all said to have commanded fees in excess of $100m.
In the inaugural LIV campaign, Bland won $3,500,000 on the course with LIV and he's already surpassed that number in 2023 by collecting $4,400,000.
During his career on the DP World Tour, he won just shy of $10,000,000 in 511 starts.
The 2024 BMW PGA Championship will be played over 19-22 September.
New Zealand's Ryan Fox is the defending champion.
