Golf fans all say same thing as LIV pro jumps 1,000 (!) places in world rankings
Carlos Ortiz has jumped up more than 1,000 places in the Official World Golf Ranking after his victory on the Asian Tour in Oman.
Carlos Ortiz turned heads a few weeks ago when the golfer claimed LIV promised breakaway tour players world ranking points.
"It was definitely said that we were going to get them," Ortiz told GOLF as he complained about how difficult it is for LIV pros to get into the majors.
His comments were later echoed by Bryson DeChambeau, who stated LIV have fulfilled all of the criteria to have OWGR points.
"It's been two years, what's going on guys?" DeChambeau said as he addressed the tiresome topic once again.
DeChambeau has exemptions into the 2024 majors owing to his U.S. Open victory at Winged Foot in 2020.
But for other LIV players they have had to look elsewhere in a bid to move up the rankings and perhaps get into the majors.
The Asian Tour is accredited by the OWGR and the International Series has proven to be a popular destination for LIV players.
Ortiz upstaged Louis Oosthuizen and Joaquin Niemann at the International Series Oman event over the weekend.
Fellow LIV players Mito Pereira, Peter Uihlein, Matthew Wolff, Lucas Herbert, David Puig, Kieran Vincent, Scott Vincent, Abraham Ancer, Hudson Swafford, Eugenio Chacarra, Charl Schwartzel, Matt Jones and Danny Lee were also in the field.
Along with the $360,000 top prize, Ortiz made a considerable jump in the OWGR.
Before the tournament began he was ranked 1286th in the world. He's since jumped up 1,049 spots to 237th.
Despite the jump, it looks more than likely Ortiz will fall short of qualifying for all four majors.
Being inside the top-50 of the OWGR assures starting berths in all four majors. A top-60 spot locks up an invite to the U.S. Open.
The PGA of America typically assures players inside the top-100 a space at the PGA Championship.
Despite Ortiz's issues, a number of golf fans on X appeared to have little sympathy.
"The overlords lied to him, shock!" one wrote. Another added: "It's obvious Greg Norman lied.
"I have no sympathy for them, LIV has done nothing to become compliant to get OWGR points and the criteria predates LIV."

What did Ortiz say about LIV being promised world ranking points?
Ortiz told GOLF: "It was definitely said that we were going to get them [OWGR points], but we haven't got them.
"I understand that we went out of the system and it's going to take time to get back or to be part of the system, but I also think that if the world ranking was to be accurate they have to include all kinds of players, you know?
"I'm not saying we should have got them from the beginning, I know there are certain rules, and I knew from the beginning there were some consequences and the setbacks we could have had, and I accept them.
"I just obviously wish we could change them and find a way that we could be part of that ecosystem where we can be ranked and compete freely, not only in the majors against the other players."
