Bryson DeChambeau makes fresh claim about LIV Golf's OWGR situation
Bryson DeChambeau has claimed LIV Golf have fulfilled the Official World Golf Ranking requirements, despite what has been said.
Bryson DeChambeau claims LIV Golf have fulfilled the criteria set out by the Official World Golf Ranking.
DeChambeau made the assertion on the most recent edition of LIV's Fairway To Heaven podcast.
The American discussed his personal goals going forward, content creation, his Masters plan and the influence of his parents on his career.
DeChambeau's father, Jon, died aged 63 last November and his passing has clearly had a huge impact on the golfer.
But one topic that got DeChambeau particularly riled was the subject of world ranking points.
In case you have somehow managed to avoid the news, LIV Golf are not accredited by the OWGR.
It means their players have been struggling to get into major championships.
Joaquin Niemann became the first LIV player to be invited to the Masters and to many it appeared Augusta National were extending an olive branch.
But the Chilean's inclusion is owing to the fact he is a former Latin America Amateur Champion who also won the Australian Open in January.
For two years there has been a debate on whether LIV should or shouldn't be given OWGR accreditation.
DeChambeau has repeatedly addressed the topic over the past 24 months. Likewise his peers and LIV chief Greg Norman.
The aforementioned Norman reportedly told LIV players they would be getting points. He recently described the situation as 'laughable'.
To some LIV critics, the solution is more than simple. You want points? Fulfil the requirements. DeChambeau contends LIV have.
"I have words that I'd love to say but I can't about it," DeChambeau said.
"They said 'you need certain requirements', we have fulfilled all those requirements, despite what everybody thinks."
He continued: "If you go look at their handbook, we have fulfilled every single criteria. It's been over two years now. What's going on guys?
"It's a bit frustrating, but nothing we can do at this moment.
"If we showcase ourselves in the major championships there's no way they can keep us out.
"We just got to play well in the majors and once we do, they have no choice."
DeChambeau doesn't have to worry about his ranking for now to get into the majors. He's currently 169th in the world.
His 2021 U.S. Open victory at Winged Foot has provided him with the exemptions he needs for 2024. The exemptions won't last forever, though.
Before his appearance on the podcast came to an end, DeChambeau had a simple solution as to how to bring the golf world back together.
"The death to egos needs to occur," he said. "On all sides. And if that can happen it's a step in the right direction for the game of golf."
