Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky pack on PDA as American wins LIV Golf Vegas
Dustin Johnson claimed his third title in the lucrative LIV Golf League in their second event of the 2024 campaign in Las Vegas.
Dustin Johnson claimed his third LIV Golf League title in Las Vegas after Jon Rahm struggled down the stretch once again.
The reigning Masters champion started the final round at Las Vegas Country Club two behind Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.
But the Spaniard hit an uncharacteristic shank with his third at the par-5 15th down the stretch as a host of players emerged as contenders.
The resulting, costly bogey saw Rahm drop two shots behind the leaders before Johnson closed the door with a birdie at the penultimate hole.
Rahm cut a frustrated figure over the final two holes with the hot mics picking up more than a few expletives.
The 29-year-old had a glorious opportunity to claim victory in his maiden LIV event last week in Mayakoba.
But he carded two bogeys across his final two holes to throw away the chance of a victory before Joaquin Niemann outlasted Sergio Garcia in a playoff.
Johnson finished atop the leaderboard on 12-under, one stroke ahead of Talor Gooch and Peter Uihlein.
The American claimed his first title with the Saudi Arabia-backed breakaway tour at their stop in Boston in their inaugural campaign in 2022.
His second victory followed last season in Tulsa, Oklahoma after he beat Australia's Cameron Smith in a playoff.
Johnson was quickly congratulated on the final green by his wife Paulina Gretzky.
He said: "It's a great win, I knew it was going to be tough today.
"I knew I was going to have to play well and making that clutch birdie at 17 gave me a great shot."
