Jon Rahm and his European Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Aberg have decided to skip the penultimate event of the 2023-2024 DP World Tour season.

Only the top 70 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings were eligible to compete at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links.

It is the first of two playoff events and Rahm was expected to be in the field for the tournament, which will take place over 7-10 November.

But the Spaniard, who claimed LIV Golf's individual title in his maiden season with the breakaway tour, has decided to give the event a miss.

The 2023 Masters champion has had a stressful end to the year.

Complications with his wife Kelley's third pregnancy meant he faced a race against time to compete at the Spanish Open in Madrid.

He needed to play in his home open to keep alive his prospects of representing Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Rahm also competed at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, finishing in a tie for seventh. He also posted a top-10 at the Andalucia Masters.

He has since confirmed his daughter Alaia is doing well

Sweden's Aberg has also decided against playing next week.

He has been struggling with a knee injury and confirmed on 10 September that he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

He recently posted a picture on Instagram that showed him wearing a sleeve but insisted that the surgery 'went well'.

But it appears he is not yet ready to return to action.

Billy Horschel, Matthieu Pavon, Zander Lombard, Aaron Rai are also not listed at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
