'It rubbed off on me' DP World Tour pro's hilarious response after course-record 61 in Bahrain
England's Brandon Robinson Thompson shoots a course-record 11-under 61 in Bahrain and then immediately points to his chest.
Lyle & Scott ambassador Brandon Robinson Thompson went eagle-crazy at the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain on Thursday – and then put it all down to being inspired by the brand's famous logo!
Robinson Thompson, 32, fired a stunning course record 11-under 61 in the first round of the Bahrain Championship.
The Englishman needed to birdie the final hole to become just the second player in DP World Tour history to shoot a round of 59.
That has only ever been achieved by his compatriot Oliver Fisher in the second round of the 2018 Portugal Masters.
Robinson Thompson gave it his best shot but unfortunately went on to bogey the par-4 18th to come up two shots shy of golf's magic number.
Nevertheless, it was a course record in the books and the lowest round of his DP World Tour career.
“I feel like the Lyle & Scott eagle rubbed off on me today... after all I had two of them on the front nine!” said a beaming Robinson Thomson, who leads by three shots after the first round.
Robinson Thompson's record-breaking round also vaults him to the top of the betting market after 18 holes and gives him every chance of landing his maiden DP World Tour title this weekend.

Despite missing the cut in Ras Al Khaimah last week, Robinson Thompson credited a solid second-round 68 last Friday as the catalyst for a change in his fortunes following a slow start to the 2025 DP World Tour season.
"I’d say a lot of today stemmed from last Friday," added the two-time Challenge Tour winner.
"Although I missed the cut by a couple last week, my Friday round, if you looked at the round, I made eight birdies and I got into a nice flow and rhythm.
"That’s what’s crazy, you know. A lot of people look at it from the outside and they’re quite shocked or they go, ‘How did you go from that to that?’
"For us, we know when it feels good and we know when it’s close, we know. It’s hard to go out and predict a course-record 11-under, but you know when it feels good."

Lyle & Scott’s Ian Henderson, Golf Lead, said: "Wow – what a round by Brandon. We truly believe in his abilities and to see him putting a round together like that while wearing Lyle & Scott apparel was special. Let’s hope the rest of the week goes just as well."

Robinson Thompson added of his new Lyle & Scott apparel for 2025: "I’m super excited because the new season’s gear arrived earlier this month. I love the stuff and growing up I remember seeing Lyle & Scott on TV. It’s a huge golf brand.
"It’s the little things like the trousers and shorts with the non-slip – so your shirt never comes untucked."
