DP World Tour pro Marco Penge has been fined £2,000 and suspended for three months for placing multiple bets on golf.

The Wentworth-based circuit announced Penge's suspension on 18 December.

Penge, 26, was found by an independent disciplinary panel to have breached the Tour's integrity programme by placing multiple bets on tournaments.

New:

He did not bet on himself, a spokesperson for the DP World Tour confirmed.

"Penge did not bet on himself or on the progress of tournaments during days when he was participating," the spokesperson said.

"Leading the panel to find that the integrity of such events had not been compromised."

Penge is suspended for a period of three months, with one month suspended for 12 months.

The suspension took effect from 13 December and he will be allowed to return on 13 February 2025.

The disciplinary panel was heard by a KC, Philip Evans, sport administrator Les Vernon and Legends Tour member Simon Khan.

It is understood Penge's co-operation and 'immediate admission' for the breach played a significant role in the sanction.

Who is Marco Penge?

Marco Penge is a 26-year-old golfer from Lancashire.

He turned professional in 2017 and played the early years of his career on the mini and developmental tours.

Primarily, Penge played on the now-defunct PGA EuroPro Tour and Jamega Tour.

He earned his DP World Tour card by topping the Challenge Tour's order of merit in 2023.

Penge's first full season on the DP World Tour was rocky.

He kept his Tour status for 2025, though, with a brilliant performance at the Genesis Championship in November.

Penge needed to make the cut in Korea to give himself any chance of keeping his Tour card.

And he did just that, making birdie on the final hole of his second round.

He went on to finish 22nd and secured enough points to finish 110th in the Race to Dubai.

Only the top 115 players kept their cards.

He told BBC Sport golf reporter Iain Carter that it was the most nervous he had ever been and his 'whole body' was shaking as he stood over his birdie putt in the second round.

"To play the way I did under the pressure I was under, I'm pretty speechless right now and just over the moon that it is done," he said after the tournament concluded.

Penge is not the only professional golfer to have been sanctioned for gambling on the sport in recent times.

Korn Ferry players Vince India and Jake Staiano were suspended by the PGA Tour in 2023 for betting on the sport.

India was hit with a six-month suspension whilst Staiano was banned for three months.
