DP World Tour drop bombshell update on Jon Rahm's Ryder Cup plans
LIV Golf star Jon Rahm has appealed his DP World Tour fines to keep his 2025 Ryder Cup plans alive, according to latest report.
The DP World Tour has confirmed LIV Golf star Jon Rahm has appealed his DP World Tour fines and will therefore be able to keep his 2025 Ryder Cup bid alive, according to a report in bunkered.
Per the Scottish-based publication, Rahm 'lodged his appeal' to the DP World Tour just before today's deadline.
Rahm, 29, confirmed yesterday ahead of LIV Golf Chicago he intended to participate in the Spanish Open at the end of the month, as well as additional tournaments at the Dunhill Links and Andalucia Masters in October.
He also claimed he had no intention to pay off his fines to the DP World Tour.
That decision would have prevented Rahm from competing in any DP World Tour events.
But following today's fresh update on Rahm's decision to appeal his DP World Tour fines, he will be able to go about his business as planned on the DP World Tour.
“Jon Rahm has a pending appeal against sanctions imposed on him and in accordance with the DP World Tour’s Regulations, he is eligible to participate in the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid later this month," a DP World Tour spokesperson told bunkered.
The two-time major champion is able to compete in the Spanish Open, Dunhill Links and Andalucia Masters since all three events do not clash with any LIV Golf tournaments.
The LIV Golf season finishes next week.
Rahm was required under DP World Tour rules to compete in at least four regular tournaments on the schedule in order to maintain his membership.
All members of the European Ryder Cup team must be a member of the DP World Tour under the current rules.
Rahm's first counting event on the DP World Tour this season was the Olympics last month.
He held a four-shot lead heading into the back nine in Paris but ended up not even finishing on the podium.
That is something that still irks Rahm today.
The DP World Tour's confirmation of Rahm's status is the same as his Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton, who returned to the DP World Tour at the British Masters earlier this month.
Hatton, 29, was able to tee it up at The Belfry two weeks ago as he also has a pending appeal against sanctions imposed on him for breaching the DP World Tour's Conflicting Tournament Regulation.
Rahm and Hatton will now be able to participate in DP World Tour events and will not have to pay any fines until their appeals have been processed.
LIV Golf pro Adrian Meronk, who was unfortunate to miss out on a captain's pick in a first European Ryder Cup team last year, is also in the same boat as Rahm and Hatton.
Rahm is currently ranked 118th on the DP World Tour Rankings.
Should he play his way into the top 70 prior to the Abu Dhabi Championship then he will be able to compete in that tournament too.
And should he then make his way into the top 50 after that, he will be eligible to compete in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
Rahm will need to put his foot on the gas if he is to catch Rory McIlroy at the top of the standings, however, as he is currently around 3,000 points behind the four-time major champion.
McIlroy will be going in search of emulating Seve Ballesteros' haul of six Harry Vardon trophies in November.
Rahm won the Race to Dubai in 2019, and he is a three-time winner of the DP World Tour Championship.
