ROME - Tyrrell Hatton was involved in an hilarious exchange with a reporter when he declared he would win in a 'swear-off' with his Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm

Hatton, 31, will make his third appearance in the Cup at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

It's fair to say Hatton's role within the side has changed considerably now as he's one of the more experienced players in the young team.

Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai Hojgaard and Robert MacIntyre have replaced the old guard and are the future, Rory McIlroy said as he sent a message to a LIV Golf trio shortly after Hatton met with the media.

Hatton made his debut at Le Golf National in 2018 and was part of Padraig Harringtonn's side that were swept aside with ease two years ago.

He is a different animal now and Team USA will be well aware of just how good the World No.11 is.

There has been widespread speculation Rahm and Hatton could be playing alongside each other in the Friday morning fourballs.

Hatton wouldn't confirm or deny whether he will be playing with the 2023 Masters champion.

Although he confirmed the two are good pals off the course. Rahm deliberately calls the Englishman Ty-Rell to get under his skin if he's upset with the golfer, Hatton said.

"I think we're both fairly similar, pretty fiery people," Hatton said. "But Jon is obviously a fantastic player and naturally brings a great energy."

He is right to say fiery. Both golfers are known for their outbursts of anger every now and again whenever they set foot on a golf course

So who would win in a square-off? Who has got the best expletives?

Hatton said:

"I don't understand why Jon doesn't swear in Spanish. Why does he swear in English? I don't get it. He would probably get away with it if he just swore in Spanish. Maybe the English language has a bit more punch to it with certain words."

He said he didn't have an extensive repertoire of swear words, but he never holds back.

"Doesn't matter what we're doing," Hatton said. "I'm swearing." A reporter asked: "What about now?"

His response? "F off."

Watch:

"I don't have a point to prove"

Hatton has an overall record of 2-4-1 across his two appearances.

The Englishman said ultimately when it comes to the Ryder Cup anything can happen over 18 holes and therefore he's not stressing about his individual record.

"I don't think I have anything to prove," he said.

"It's hard to win a point. It just is what it is. I sound boring repeating it, but you are going out there giving it your best every single time. It's not going to work out perfectly."
