G25

When the images of the G25 range were first released, I was really pleased. The driver, in my opinion, is the best looking by any brand over the past few years.

PING has given the G25 driver the premium look of the i20 and Anser from yesteryear – with the stylish matte black finish on the crown and retro black and white sole for maximum shelf appeal – and added it to the forgiving, game-improving performance of previous drivers from the G range.

Also from the Anser driver comes the adjustability, so you have the option to add or subtract half a degree of loft, while like its predecessor the large weight pad is positioned at the back of the club to generate high launch and low spin – and with it a satisfying ball flight.

The 460CC head also features a variable-thickness face for maximum forgiveness and faster ball speeds.

So how does it perform? Well, I’m driving the ball better than I even was with the G20 – an observation noted by my regular playing partner – and I’m finding more fairways.

At address, the G25 looks fantastic. No silly patterns and no annoying gimmicks (other brands take note) – just a clean and crown that not only looks good but eliminates any glare from the sun.

But my favourite thing about this driver? It encourages a nice, smooth swing which gets the ball out there nicely. And isn’t that what we all want in a long stick?

I could bleat on about how much I love it all day, but I would highly recommend you just get down to your pro shop and try it out. If you don’t like it, I’d love to hear why.

Verdict

PING has created a driver which looks and feels incredible, providing maximum forgiveness. I gave the G20 driver five out of five. If I could give the G25 six, I would.
