G25

In the new G25 iron, PING engineers have created a long, forgiving design with exceptional feel and distance control while maintaining a sleeker profile. The high-performance model features progressive sole widths, thinner top lines and moderate offset which will appeal to golfers of all abilities.

The non-glare matte grey finish was very welcome with the winter sun beaming down, allowing us to focus on the shot in hand. The sleek, thin top-line and moderate offset is a bonus on the G25 and the overall shape of the club frames the ball beautifully in classic PING style.

I must admit the amount of offset found in PING irons has been a turn off for me in the past but the G25 has finally dispelled those thoughts. It's moderate and I can live with that.

In comparison to the G-series clubs of years gone by, we prefer the G25’s darkened finish and progressive thick sole, which creates a wider and more appealing club.

The support bars in the cavity stabilise the 17-4 stainless steel face and ensure solid feel and exceptional distance control throughout. The multi-material cavity badge also enhances sound and feel and really helps you gain feedback at impact.

PING’s Custom Tuning Port (CTP) has been repositioned much lower on the face than previous to increase the efficiency of the G25. These irons will give you unbelievably high launch angles, while the thinner face will aid plenty of forgiveness. The longer irons felt about as easy to launch as a wedge.

The springiness off the face felt pretty similar to its predecessors with little gain in yardage.

Verdict

The best looking iron in PING’s history. While this iron doesn’t crave distance like some of the others we have tested this year, we can see the G25 appealing to a wide range of golfers looking for high, penetrating strikes with forgiveness in abundance. The G25 could quite easily go in the bag of a single-figure capper.
