GolfMagic Fantasy Picks: AT&T Byron Nelson; Scheffler a red-hot favourite to win
Scottie Scheffler given the captain's armband at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
Scottie Scheffler is a red-hot favourite to win the AT&T Byron Nelson in front of his adoring home fans on the PGA Tour and we see no reason not to give him our captain's armband on GolfMagic Fantasy this week.
Fresh from three weeks off following an intense run of PGA Tour designated events, Scheffler will be in prime condition to pick up his third title of the season at TPC Craig Ranch.
Our top scorer this week will win x2 NEW Callaway Wedges!
Scheffler, who successfully defended the Phoenix Open before winning The Players Championship earlier this year, has incredibly not finished outside the top 12 in his last 12 PGA Tour starts.
Despite results of T47 and T15 in his last two starts at the Byron Nelson, we have full confidence in a big week for America's best player especially given this week's fairly depleted field.
Jordan Spieth was installed as the second favourite this week but he has since been forced to withdraw from his home event as a result of injury.
That means the next best player in the field is Tyrrell Hatton, at World No.17, two spots clear of South Korea's rising star Tom Kim.
That only further opens the door for Scheffler to walk on through this week.
Scheffler did appear to be struggling on the greens when we last saw him at The Masters and RBC Heritage last month, but you would like to think he has been working hard on the practice putting green during his time off.
South Korea's KH Lee is looking to incredibly win the AT&T Byron Nelson for a third consecutive season, and he will fancy his chance of doing just that fresh off a top-10 finish at the Wells Fargo last week.
Let's take a look at our five-man roster on GolfMagic Fantasy.
We're taking one from Pot 1, one from Pot 2, two from Pot 3 and one from Pot 4.
GolfMagic Fantasy Selections: AT&T Byron Nelson
Pot 1: Scottie Scheffler (c)
The best player in the field by some way. He's been arguably the hottest player in world golf for a while now alongside Jon Rahm with 12 top-12 finishes in a row on the PGA Tour and he should be fresh for this week having taken the last few weeks off to rest. If he returns to TPC Craig Ranch with a hot putter, it's more than likely going to be curtains for the rest of the field. The easiest of captain armbands.
Pot 2: Tyrrell Hatton
Hatton has been knocking on the door of late with four top-10 finishes in the designated events. He felt like he was going to 'snap hook' his tee shots over the weekend at Wells Fargo, which is some cause for concern, but he still finished tied third there. Hatton looks to be trending nicely so he looks the easiest of Pot 2 picks this week.
Pot 3: Adam Scott, KH Lee
Scott played well last week despite putting horrendously over the weekend. The former Masters champion missed one putt from two feet in the final round. However, Scott's ball striking looked on point and many swing critics believe the Australian is hitting the ball better than ever right now. In what is a fairly weak field this week, Scott could be a great outside pick to spoil Scheffler's home party. Our second Pot 3 pick is going to be Lee, who has incredibly won this tournament the past two seasons. The South Korean clearly loves the venue, and he also played well last week with a tie for eighth so the omens look good for a sensational three-peat. While highly unlikely, he's got an outside chance for sure.
Pot 4: Aaron Wise
For our final Pot 4 pick, we're going to take a chance on Wise, who is making his first start since taking close to a month off since the WGC Match Play where he went out in the group stage. The American has not shown his best in recent months but we saw plenty from him towards the back end of last season to realise he has plenty of game. Wise is a former winner of this tournament in 2018, albeit on a different golf course in Texas.
