Announcer completely BUTCHERS Rory McIlroy's name on Tiger Woods' return
Rory McIlroy's name was butchered before he hit his first tee shot at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera on Tiger Woods' return to PGA Tour action.
It's probably fair to say the announcer was a tad nervous as he introduced Rory McIlroy before Tiger Woods' return to PGA Tour action.
In fairness to the young lad, he was clutching a piece of paper with some written introductions at the ready and looked visibly skittish.
I mean, who wouldn't be a little bit overawed with the eyes of the golf world watching this moment on the first tee at Riviera Country Club.
It's been seven months since Woods, 47, has played professional golf. He made the shock decision to play the Genesis Invitational last Friday.
The announcer got off to a shaky start by saying that McIlroy, 33, was the reigning FedEx Chup Champion.
Then he paused and attempted to say McIlroy's name. In the end, he opted for: McCeelroy?!
Poor lad. One fan let the announcer know his mistake before Woods teed off. "It's McIlroy, by the way," the voice could be heard saying.
"Better not get the next name wrong".
Yeah, and doesn't he know it!

How the fuck do you butcher Rory McIlroy’s name and your job is to announce it

How does the tee box PA guy mess up Rory McIlroy's last name? Dude.

Can't get worse hiring or a bigger embarrassment for a big event. On first tee with Tiger and Justin Thomas...Rory McIlroy announced as Rory McELLroy

Also playing in the group was Justin Thomas. He knows all too well about butchered introductions as he was announced as Justin Thompson during the third round of the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club at Brookline.
Woods' first tee shot in a non-major since the 2020 ZOZO Championship missed the fairway to the right. Despite that, he managed to walk off with a birdie.
He laid up on the par-5 then sent a low chip to the back pin and duly sank the putt. Thomas and McIlroy also made birdie.
