That means it carries a bumper prize purse of $20m. The winner will take home a cheque for $3.6m.
The tournament is played over 16-19 February at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. The course is famed for its difficulty.
Woods, incidentally, has never won here. To the surprise of many, 47-year-old Woods confirmed his first start in seven months.

He is playing alongside Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas over the first two rounds.
The defending champion of the Genesis Invitational is Joaquin Niemann. But the Chilean is unable to defend his title after he was banned after joining the LIV Golf League last summer.
Niemann took home $2,160,000 when he claimed his second PGA Tour title.
