Jon Rahm successfully defends the Open de Espana
Jon Rahm won the Open de Espana for the second year running, take a look at what clubs he had in the bag to do so.
Jon Rahm successfully defended the Open de Espana in Madrid on Sunday, as he cruised to a five shot victory over fellow Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello. The world No.5 went into Sunday with a five-shot lead and put together a fantastic five-under par final round of 66 to win his fifth European Tour title.
Rafa Cabrera Bello continued his fine form of late with a second place finish, while world number 1,413 Samuel Del Val made it a hat trick of Spaniards in the top three, securing third place.
Rahm started his final round just as he'd have liked, with three pars before he eagled the par-5 fourth hole, before finding another two birdies before the turn.
The 24-year-old's only bogey of the day came at the 17th hole where a three-putt left him frustrated, but Rahm was delighted to successfully defend his title in front of a home crowd.
"I'm not happy I three-putted 17, I wanted to go bogey-free, but at the end of the day I did the important thing, I was able to successfully defend it in front of the home crowd," Rahm told Sky Sports.
"It might not be the strongest field yet but it's always really hard for me to keep everything under control and to play the weekend that I did for them is always really fun.
"I can't wait for next year to come back and hopefully do it three times."
The win for Rahm put him at the top of the leaderboard in the Race to Dubai ahead of Open Champion Shane Lowry.
