Hilarious footage has emerged of Patrick Cantlay during the 151st Open Championship.

Cantlay was in the thick rough and didn't really have any other option apart from muscling his golf ball back into the fairway at Royal Liverpool.

The American pro took an almighty swipe with a short iron and managed to escape the fescue with ease.

But what followed was one of the most delayed pivots we have seen in recent memory. I mean, this was absolutely ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

Still, the clip is an absolute masterpiece. Watch below:

Hundreds of golf fans were quick to post their thoughts.

Here's what some of them said:

"Bro even reacts slowly."
"This video is delayed a year obviously."
"Legend has it he's still playing the second round."
"He's powered by satellite internet."
"It's like the game mechanics didn't load properly."
"Wish they didn't speed up the video."
"When your golf coach says 'hold that finish' but you're already done swinging."
"A lot of things must be happening between those ears to do that. Or it was a glitch in the matrix."

Golf fans lose their minds over Patrick Cantlay clip:

Those commenting on the video are referencing Cantlay's lack of urgency over the golf ball.

To the uninitiated, Cantlay has been accused of playing too slowly. All year.

Cantlay was even caught in Brooks Koepka's crosshairs after the final round of the 87th Masters.

Perhaps Koepka was a little bit salty as he let a golden opportunity to wear the green jacket slip by.

But in the immediate aftermath of the final round at Augusta National Koepka complained Cantlay's group was 'brutally slow'.

So slow, in fact, that his playing partner and eventual champion Jon Rahm was able to take multiple bathroom breaks. "And we were still waiting," he said.

Cantlay later defended himself

The duo were re-united during the final major of the year. The R&A raised eyebrows when they put Cantlay, Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama together for the first 36 holes.

Matsuyama is also a player who likes to take his time over golf shots.
