Tiger Woods: "No reason Phil can't win every event" on Champions Tour
Tiger Woods believes that there is "no reason" why Phil Mickelson can't win every tournament he enters on the Champions Tour.
Phil Mickelson claimed his first Champions Tour title at the very first time of asking, after he shot 22-under par through three rounds to win the Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National by four shots and Tiger Woods believes there is "no reason" why he can't win every event he enters on the Champions Tour.
Woods and Mickelson have gone toe-to-toe on the PGA Tour for decades and with Mickelson now eligible to play on the Champions Tour after turning 50 in June, Woods thinks his frenemy could dominate the senior scene.
Mickelson made it clear that he wouldn't be switching over to the Champions Tour permanently, but after failing to advance to the next FedExCup play-off event at the BMW Championship, Lefty decided to makehis highly anticipated senior debut.
Speaking to the media ahead of the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields, Woods said Mickelson has a huge advantage on the Champions Tour due to the power off the tee he still possesses.
“He said he's been close to playing well,” Woods said. “Obviously he played well in Memphis. You know, I think that he was already one of the longer hitters out here, and now he goes to where he's going to pick up a huge advantage off the tee, but you have to take advantage of that opportunity off the tee.
“His wedge game is off the charts, as we all know, and getting every wedge in there he's going to put it inside of 10, 15 feet each and every time, hole those, get momentum and keeps it going, there's no reason why he can't win every event he plays out there,” Woods said. “He's got such a big advantage over the rest of the field just with sheer length.”
