Tiger Woods set up a mouth-watering last 16 clash with Rory McIlroy on Saturday at the WGC Match Play following a superb 4&2 victory over Patrick Cantlay on Friday.
Woods needed to defeat Cantlay which he duly did with the minimum of fuss and also for Brandt Snedeker to lose to Aaron Wise, which also happened with a 6&4 scoreline.
The 14-time major champion trailed Cantlay 2 down after eight holes, but he quickly rallied around the turn and sprinted clear when winning five of the next six holes, highlighted by a hole-out eagle-two on the par-4 13th from 90 yards.
Woods would then win the par-5 16th for a comfortable 4&2 victory, picking up a vital second point in Group 13 to prevail by half a point over Cantlay and Snedeker.
McIlroy picked up his third consecutive point in Group 4 when defeating Matt Fitzpatrick.
"I'm excited to play Rory, it should be a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll both bring our games," said Woods.
