Kevin Na wins the Shriners Open on home soil
Kevin Na won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas on Sunday, check out what he had in the bag.
Kevin Na put together a putting masterclass all week at TPC Summerlin on his way to winning his fourth PGA Tour title and his second in his home city of Las Vegas.
In fact, Na's putting was so clinical, he set a new PGA Tour record for feet of putts made in a 72-hole event, an incredible 558 feet, 11 inches over the course of four rounds.
The Shriners Open went to a playoff to decide the winner last week, as Na was joined by Patrick Cantlay, who won the event two years ago and finished runner up to Bryson DeChambeau last year.
Cantlay had looked solid all week and many believed that his form at TPC Summerlin would be too strong for those around the top of the leaderboard, but on the second playoff hole, Cantlay three putted, allowing Na to tap in for the win.
“I should have kissed it after I won. I'll give it a kiss when I get home,” Na joked, talking about his putter.
“I feel like I'm a pretty good putter. I'm a player that I feel like I get better as I get closer to the greens. That's a strength of my game, a part of my game that gets stronger.
“Putter got hot this week. Tends to do that sometimes, and when it does, if I'm hitting it halfway decent I feel like I can win.”
After nine holes of his final round, Na had a three-shot lead and looked well on his way to securing the win, but on the 10th hole, Na had a nightmare with just 50 yards left and ended up with a triple bogey.
Cantlay then took the lead when Na found the water on the 16th, but just a hole later, Cantlay found the water himself and Na sunk a sensational 22ft clutch par putt to share the lead.
Na now has three wins in his last 30 starts, with two of them coming in 2019 and the 36-year-old is hoping that Tiger Woods has his eye on him for the Presidents Cup.
“I'm hoping he texts me. If not, I'm going to be texting him,” Na said.
“You know, during the Playoffs I had the birth of my second child where I missed the BMW Championship. I was injured quite a bit last season. I only played 19 events, which is six to seven short of my normal.
“So I was a little bit behind on the points but I got two wins in this calendar year, so hopefully he's keeping an eye on me. I could make some putts. I'm a good match-play player. I don't know. I keep trying to sell myself. Hopefully he considers me.”
