GolfMagic makes four HUGE predictions for golf in 2020...
Who wins the majors? What happens at the Ryder Cup? We've got the answers...
With one of the best ever golfing seasons drawing to a close, GolfMagic is now looking ahead to 2020 and some of the headlines that could be in store.
From the Ryder Cup and PGA Tour to the majors and what's in store for the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, we've made four incredibly bold predictions for what will definitely might happen next year. Do you agree? Find out below...
#1 - Jon Rahm to win TWO majors!
You heard us. Jon Rahm wins not one, but two majors in 2020.
The big-hitting Spaniard has been in scintillating form the past few months, with two victories at the Irish Open and Open de Espana along with seven top-five finishes in his last 11 starts.
Rahm is without doubt the best player on Tour without a major to his name right now, but the talented 24-year-old ends all that next year with victory in the year's second major at the US PGA Championship in May.
We then fancy him to take that confidence into the third major of the year, and win the US Open for back-to-back major titles.
#2 - Rory McIlroy to complete the career Grand Slam at The Masters!
At long last, Rory McIlroy will enter the record books and slip on the green jacket for the first ever time on Sunday April 12.
Should our predicition happen, McIlroy will become just the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
McIlroy has come incredibly close to winning The Masters in recent years, none more so than when throwing it all away on the back nine in 2011.
The World No.2's record at Augusta National is impressive, too, which only adds to the appeal for arguably the best player in the world right now following a third title of the season at the Tour Championship to clinch a second career FedEx Cup.
Since his harrowing collapse eight years ago at The Masters when falling out of the lead to finish tied 15th, McIlroy went on to pick up five consecutive top-10 finishes at Augusta from 2014 to 2018. He never really got into contention this April, but still finished tied 21st.
McIlroy knows his way around there now, and if truth be told, this is the ONLY tournament he will want to win in 2020.
#3 - Viktor Hovland to win TWICE during the season!
Viktor Hovland might be a relative unknown to the average golf fan, but he will soon become a household European name in 2020 - mark our words. In fact, we fancy the 22-year-old to become World No.1 within the next eight years.
The rising Norwegian star has vaulted up the world rankings since turning professional earlier in the season, vaulting from outside the top 1,000 in the world to a current 94th.
Hovland has wasted little time in getting himself into contention on the PGA Tour, and incredibly, he has not finished worse than tied 16th in his last eight tournaments around the world.
He has 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s on the PGA Tour, and one more round in the 60s at the CJ Cup this week will see him break a new PGA Tour record. Incredibly, he has only shot one round over 70 on the PGA Tour since turning professional in June.
There are no doubts in our mind that Hovland will continue his dramatic rise in the game in 2020, and start racking up the wins as he goes in pursuit of punching his ticket to Whistling Straits for a debut Ryder Cup appearance - something we think he will achieve.
#4 - Europe to WIN the Ryder Cup on US soil!
Sorry United States, but you're not having the Ryder Cup back anytime soon.
Yes, you're on home turf in 2020 and you'll probably set the course up to be 9,000 yards long - and possibly wide, with zero rough - but Padraig Harrington's side are going to bring it home for an eighth win in the last 10 renewals.
It's going to be tight, no question about it, but we think it will go down to the final couple of matches.
We're calling a 15-13 victory for Europe.
