Sam Snead memorabilia sells for $1.1 million
GOLFING memorabilia of late seven-time major champion Sam Snead sold for a whopping $1,106,868 at a Platinum Night Sports Auction held in Chicago on Thursday evening.
Snead's claret jug from the 1946 Open Championship was the highlight of the auction offered by his family, selling for $262,900.

Incredibly, that’s $262,300 more than Slammin' Sammy actually earned for winning it!
Other lots included his 1954 Masters trophy that sold for $191,200 and the 1959 Ryder Cup Championship trophy which went for $179,250.
Snead, who died aged 89 in 2002, won a record 82 PGA Tour events.
