Oosthuizen's dad: don't be a golfer, son
South African's father was desperate for him to hit the courts
Bored of Louis Oosthuizen yet? Well we’re not. We love him over here at GOLFmagic Towers.
But we might not have been writing about him at all if his father had his way over his son's chosen career. Why? Because Piet Oosthuizen was desperate for his son to take up tennis.
A keen racket master himself, Oosty Snr was left to walk the courts alone as his children opted for the greens instead.
“My dad was very cross with us. He refused to take us on the course because he wanted to play tennis,” explained the 27-year-old.
“He was a big tennis player and he was on the court looking at me and my brother as we walked past to play golf.
Having finally won his dad over, the Champion Golfer of the Year finally convinced the old man to swap the baseline for the tee.
“Two years after that he started playing golf as well, and he still plays. He doesn't play tennis anymore,” he added, rather smugly.
