Hi-Tec Sports has signed reigning Weetabix Women’s British Open champion, Karen Stupples in time for her defence of her title at Royal Birkdale, Southport this week. Karen (31) originally from Dover, where she was first spotted as a potential champion at the age of 11, now lives in Orlando, Florida. She joins Padraig Harrington, Charl Schwartzel, Maarten Lafeber and Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam as part of the Hi-Tec team on Tour and will be helping in the development of the company’s women’s shoe range. FootJoy has announced it was yet again the most preferred choice of shoe at the Open Championship, where Darren Clarke commissioned six pairs of his own Classics Premiere designs in a range of colours including red and yellow. Also among the 86 players (55 per-cent) wearing FootJoy were Jose Maria Olazabal and Vijay Singh. Said FootJoy’s Mike Lucas: "It’s an honour to be the preferred choice of the majority of the best golfers for the 26th consecutive year. We are constantly developing new technology and designs to keep ahead of the game." In his first Open Championship since switching ECCO golf shoes, Colin Montgomerie finished second at St Andrews. Said Monty: "On-course comfort is a key component of playing my best and I’ve never been more comfortable than when I’m wearing these shoes." All 12 models, in a range of 26 colour combinations, feature soft, high-grade leather and extra cushioning provided by PU-injected midsoles. Other ECCO-wearers include Aaron Baddeley, Thomas Bjorn and Thongchai Jaidee. Recommended price is around £130. ECCO’s women’s collection – includes three waterproof Gore-TEX models and in trendy colours like purple glow, blue shadow, emerald and candy. Falke, the London-based sock company, has designed a sock specially for golfers, which it claims offers ‘great comfort and support without the handicap of tired and sore feet.’ The GO2 and GO2 Short socks have shock absorbent qualities and can relieve pressure and be gentle on the joints, say the makers. They are available from various stockists (01539 725 817) in a range of colours including white, blue and khaki and cost £10 per pair. *Tell us about your golf equipment – waterproofs, clubs, balls, bag, shoes, etc – by submitting a And if you’ve got clubs to buy or sell second hand you can do that too, in our popular |
