Hanson creeps to victory with Spider S

TaylorMade-adidas Golf staffer Peter Hanson has credited his new Spider S putter for helping him land his biggest victory-to-date at the BMW Masters in Shanghai.

The 35-year-old Swede, who held off a late charge from World No.1 Rory McIlroy to triumph by a shot, has now won two of his last three starts and moved into second place behind the Northern Irishman in the lucrative Race to Dubai standings.

And the old adage drive for show and putt for dough could not be more apt for the six-time European Tour champion.

“I’ve been hitting it nice but the putter has been feeling great,” said Hanson, who moves eight places up the world rankings to a career-high 17th.

“My putting has really improved, especially over the last year, and I think that’s the main reason I’m standing here with this beautiful trophy.”

Hanson ranked first in putts per greens in regulation at Lake Malaren Golf Club on 1.524 and second in putts per round with 26.8.

The Swede, who wears adidas Golf footwear and Galvin Green apparel, was also laser like from tee to green, finding 72.3% of the fairways and averaging 302.3 yards with his TaylorMade R11S, as well as hitting 75% of the greens in regulation with his Tour Preferred MB irons.

Titleist staff player Nick Watney also continued his sparkling form by collecting his second title in his last six events at the Asia Pacific Classic.

Watney, who trusts a full bag of Titleist equipment, got off to a slow start in the scorching Malaysian capital with a round of 71 but then caught fire with consecutive rounds of 65, before flying through the field with a course-record 10-under 61 on Sunday to win by one.

The 31-year-old American, wearing FJ Sport footwear, saw three separate caddies, including his wife Amber, lug his bag consisting of the hotly anticipated 913D3 driver, 712 AP2 irons and Vokey Design wedges.
