College golfer shoots unbelievable 57 in Invitational tournament
Alex Ross demolishes Webb Simpson’s course record at Druid Hills.
Alex Ross, currently a junior star at Davidson College, demolished a course record previously held by PGA Tour pro and former U.S Open winner Webb Simpson, when he shot an amazing 57 on Thursday at the Dogwood Invitational. The course is a par-72, meaning Ross went 15 under in his emphatic round, not bad ayy...?
“My phone is a mess right now, I can’t even comprehend what’s going on. … I’m still kind of in shock right now,” said Ross.
The Dogwood Invitational is an annual event at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta that first started in 1941. Back in 2007, Webb Simpson was victorious in the competition and shot a previous club record of 60, which Ross beat by three strokes.
Ross’ faultless round included 13 birdies and an eagle, which he chipped in for on the 10th (his first hole of the round).
It’s not often you see such low scores in the history of golf. In fact, no one in the professional game has ever shot a 57. The current record for lowest score in a PGA Tour event is held by Jim Furyk when he shot a 58 in the final round of the 2016 Travelers Championship, although the course, TPC River Highlands, has a par of 70, two strokes less than Druid Hills.
