Bjorn an admirer of Hatton's "desire and fire"
Thomas Bjorn excited by what he sees with Tyrrell Hatton ahead of 2018 Ryder Cup.
Fiery, competitive and ready to win. Thomas Bjorn sees a bit of his younger self in Tyrrell Hatton.
In an exclusive interview with GolfMagic at The Shire London, the 2018 European Ryder Cup captain was full of admiration for Hatton following his successful title defence of the Dunhill Links at St Andrews where he won by three strokes on 24-under par.
There may still be some way to go in the race to make the 2018 European Ryder Cup side, but Hatton currently sits proud atop the European Points List and Bjorn is very excited by what he sees.
BJORN: ONLY A FOOL WOULD NOT WANT CASEY IN YOUR TEAM
"What he did at St Andrews last week was amazing," said Bjorn, reflecting on Hatton becoming the first player to ever defend the Dunhill Links at the Home of Golf.
"It's one of the harder things to do in golf. It's always difficult to defend a title because you can almost draw too much on what happened the year before and you sort of forget what's actually ahead of you that week.
"He got off to a great start and I thought he was immense throughout the whole week."
While a number of people would like to see Hatton reign in his occasional on-course rage, the big Dane believes that passion and enthusiasm for wanting the very best result on each shot is what makes him tick.
"What I like about Tyrrell is that he's got a desire you don't see in that many other players," said Bjorn.
"Yes, some people think he gets a bit angry out there, but I have been like that and I have seen that with a lot of guys in the early part of their career who turn out to become great players. I don't think that's something you want to take out of him. I think you want him to just keep going. It's making him into the player he should be.
"He's now winning big golf tournaments and he's starting to become much more comfortable with that scene and being among that group of players that people now expect to do well.
"That all can take a bit of time to get used to, but I really like what I see in Tyrrell. There's a desire and fire in him that you don't see with everyone."
