There might be a little bit of tension between Harold Varner III and his fellow LIV Golf League players at the The Masters, after the American unleashed a volley of expletive-laden insults to some of the breakaway tour players.

Augusta National have done absolutely everything they can to try and make sure what has happened in the game over the last 12 months does not detract from the tradition unlike any other.

Phil Mickelson - not usually one to shy away from expressing his opinion - reportedly sat and kept schtum over his spicy soup that was served in honour of reigning champion Scottie Scheffler

LIV Golf boss Greg Norman was kept away from Georgia and Rory McIlroy - who packed on the PDA with his wife Erica Stoll at the Masters Par 3 Contest - has found proceedings to be plain-sailing thus far.

Varner's comments threaten to cause perhaps a bit of disruption.

If you haven't heard of Varner, he's widely thought of as one of the happiest golfers in the game.

He was linked with a move to the breakaway tour last summer but that's hardly surprising, given literally everyone was offered a handsome payday.

Varner originally said wasn't going to leave the PGA Tour after having a chat with NBA legend Michael Jordan, only to change his mind.

Still, he was clear why he joined: he wanted to spend less time playing golf and more time with his friends and family it was all about the 'damn' money.

In comments to the Washington Post, he blasted:

"They're full of s---; they're growing their pockets. I tell them all the time all of them, you didn't come here to f------ grow the game."

It was previously up in the air as to whether the LIV players would be allowed to participate in the first men's major of the year.

As many as 18 LIV players are in the field.

Varner added:

"If you said I can't play in the majors, I'd be fine. I've accepted that. I was cool with it. But some of these motherf------ want their cake and eat it too. Like, dude you knew it was going to be bad. Like going against the US government. Good luck man."

Varner also spoke to the assembled media after the Masters Par 3 Contest, of which he played with Talor Gooch

The 32-year-old explained he is feeling an added sense of pressure because "everyone thinks we [the LIV players] suck now".

According to the golfer, Space Jam this is not and their powers have not been taken away!

Take a look at this exchange Varner had with a reporter:

Q. Do you put more pressure on yourself this week, do you think?

HAROLD VARNER III:

"Yeah, I want to play well. Everyone thinks we suck now, so I want to play great."

Q. Why do people think you suck?

HAROLD VARNER III:

"I don't know. You all write it and I just read it. I don't pay attention."

Q. Did I ever write that?

HAROLD VARNER III:

"I don't know who wrote it. They have Twitter and social media. They just write.
"I want to play well. It's not like Space Jam where they took our talents away, so I'm super excited. I want to play well. That's why you play."

Q. Why do you read it?

HAROLD VARNER III:

"It's always on my Twitter. They used to write nice stuff, but now it's just chaos. But I work well in chaos, so I'll be good."
