Greg Norman's letter to LIV Golf players over OWGR bid leaked
Greg Norman has written to the LIV Golf Invitational Series players as they attempt to get Official World Golf Ranking accreditation.
Greg Norman has reportedly penned a letter to the LIV Golf Invitational Series players, suggesting it would be "wrong" if the series does not gain accreditation by the Official World Golf Ranking.
Norman, 67, previously confirmed that LIV Golf submitted their application to OWGR prior to the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.
The Australian, who was barred from attending the past champions' dinner before the landmark major, has said in media interviews that getting world ranking points is critical to the future viability to LIV.
It is also crystal clear that this is a pretty big hurdle for LIV Golf to navigate. Those in charge of this decision are not exactly thrilled with the impact of the controversial series so far if reports are to be believed that the majors are conspiring against the fledgling circuit.
Norman's letter to the LIV players was obtained by ESPN. He outlined what the scenario would be should their application be denied.

Norman wrote:
"Without LIV's inclusion, the integrity and accuracy of the rankings themselves are severely compromised. The proportion of leading players in the world competing on the LIV Series means that, despite smaller fields than some existing tour events and those that took place opposite the LIV Invitational events, the [strength of field] remains highly competitive and among the top few in the industry."
"These moves are significant not only because of their effect on players' personal endorsements and playing opportunities, but also for the accuracy and credibility of the OWGR itself.
"Without including player performances against these industry-leading [LIV] fields, the OWGR are now inaccurate. Should this continue much longer, the rankings will become even more inaccurate and marginalised, with many of the LIV Golf players having lower rankings than they are rightfully entitled to, as well as non-LIV Golf players enjoying falsely enhanced rankings.
"Simply put, it will be impossible to consider the OWGR ratings accurate or even relevant if OWGR persists in omitting 48 of the best golfers in the world."
