Woods will offer golf lessons and insider access before and after his rounds to interested viewers.

GolfTV, part of Discovery, will launch on January 1 but it will not be immediately available for those in the United States due to domestic licensing agreements that cover some of its other content.

"I’ve been watching Discovery and David Zaslav build up a global sports platform with Eurosport, the Olympics and the launch of GolfTV with us at the PGA Tour, so I think they’re the perfect partner to help grow the game," said Woods.

"They’re global, they get sports and know how to build new, younger and big audiences. It’s a perfect fit and I’m so excited to be a real partner with the Discovery Sports team.

"We’re going to build content for everyone, whether you’ve been playing golf for a long time or just starting out. I’ll be sharing stories and giving insight into my approach that has never been seen before."

The estimated annual value of the deal in 2019 and 2020 is $50 million, with payments increasing to $100 million annually in 2021 and then ramping up through 2030.

"We have been on a mission to be the leading global IP company in the world," Discovery CEO David Zaslav said during a press conference.

"The No.1 mission here is a global direct-to-consumer platform that changes the way people consume content."

Former NBA and DirecTV executive Alex Kaplan, who in his role as executive vp, commercial for Eurosport Digital will oversee the golf property for Discovery, said the partners would unveil the name for the streaming service later in the year.

"We think it could be where people shop, where people talk to each other, short-form content, instructional videos."
