Tiger Woods' agent Mark Steinberg made a statement on Sunday following the first part of the new HBO documentary 'Tiger', which Steinberg has labelled as "salacious" and compared it to the unauthorised book that was written about his client in 2018.

The two-part documentary about the 15-time major champion's life has been highly anticipated, although many journalists who were able to watch the documentary prior to its release to the public, were disappointed to see how the documentary seemed to mainly focus on the negatives, whilst achievements such as his comeback to win the 2018 Tour Championship, were not even mentioned.

“Just like the book it is based off of, the upcoming HBO documentary is just another unauthorized and salacious outsider attempt to paint an incomplete portrait of one of the greatest athletes of all-time,” Steinberg said.

Steinberg is referring to the book 'Tiger', a biography written in 2018 by Armen Keteyian and Jeff Benedict. Keteyian is also an executive producer for the two-part documentary.

ESPN broadcaster Ashley Brewer, tweeted about the documentary after watching it before it was aired on Sunday, where she said she felt "sad for Tiger" for the way he was being portrayed.

"Just finished the Tiger Woods documentary, which will air on HBO Sunday. It left me sad for Tiger. The vicious attack on him, his character & his father was unfair. It failed to highlight his work as a humanitarian. And it failed to extend grace to an imperect person, like us all."

The documentary focuses on Woods' personal life, including his relationship with his father, Earl, who passed away in 2006.

Woods does not feature in the documentary himself, nor does anyone from his immediate family or inner circle. Those featured are people who have fallen out with Woods or no longer are in contact with the 45-year-old, such as his former caddie Steve Williams and girlfriend Rachel Uchitel.
