Cobra BiO CELL driver

Brand: Cobra

Lie: 60-degree Length: 45.75” Swing Weight: D3-D4.5

Summary: The BiO CELL driver is equipped with MyFly8 and SmartPad technology that features eight adjustable loft settings, allowing you to change loft between 9- and 12-degree. It also features New Crown CELL weighting and Forged E9 BiO CELL face technologies that reduce the weight in the crown and face to deliver a lower CG, higher MOI and faster ball speeds. Cobra has also taken customisation to the next level with five colour options of Blue Aster, Barbados Red, Vibrant orange, Silver and new to the line up - Black, which we tested.

Looks: Black was old for drivers a few years ago. Not any more. Even Cobra, with more colours than the rainbow, is resorting back there. The white edged half moon around the side works perfectly well for alignment, particularly with the Cobra logo in the front middle. Nicely shaped head, too, as always when it comes to Cobra drivers. Two testers found there was a little too much glare coming off the crown, though. 3.75 (out of 5)

Feel: Probably the standout feature of this driver. It feels great in the hands at address and also through impact. Standard Graffaloy shaft felt easy to control, despite feeling a little too long for two testers. Everyone appreciated the heavier head. All four testers experienced a crisp, compressed smack at impact, no matter the strike, with a little bit of softness to it. 9 (out of 10)

Performance: On average, the most accurate stick in this test. It just flies incredibly high, possibly because it does look slightly open at address. It's still a long driver, just not quite as long as some of the others. 8.5 (out of 10)

Verdict: If you want to find more fairways and crave added feel over your drives, look no further than the BiO CELL driver for 2014. It's a good all-around performer and very good value for money at less than £250. You might gain a few more yards elsewhere, though. 21.25 (out of 25)
