Designed with long-lasting comfort in mind, the new FootJoy Quantum golf shoes have been engineered with SofFoam to deliver the brand's softest and most cushioned ride to date.
The shoes also feature a plush leather upper, spikeless outsole and FootJoy's fantastic OrthoLite EcoPlush Fit-Bed.
These shoes have been carefully designed to promote on and off-course wear, with the sleek silhouette formulated to be worn for a full round and about town.
We took these shoes out for 18 holes at Foxhills Golf and Country Club to see how they performed on the course.
Let's get into it.
FootJoy Quantum Golf Shoes Looks:
Opting for a clean, uninterrupted design, FootJoy has kept things very simple on the upper. The supple leather does most of the talking, while the trademark FJ logo is positioned near the heel with a minimal textured finish in a subtle grey.
While understandably necessary for brand recognition, personally, we would have preferred the FJ logo to be slightly smaller.
It's only a small concern; however, had it been half the size, it would have really elevated the appearance of these shoes in our eyes.
In terms of shaping, the Quantums have quite an angular toe box that will likely appeal to those who prefer a more refined look down at the address.
The heel region is a touch more chunky thanks to the SofFoam built into the heel, but despite that, these shoes maintain a very sleek profile that could easily be mistaken for a modern running shoe.
Small additions like the textured region around the collar and dotted laces also provide premium details that raise the profile of these shoes.
Another small element of the Quantum's design that we also particularly liked is the cloud-like texture that wraps around the heel.
All in all, these shoes look great. Would I wear them to play golf? Absolutely. Could they also serve as an excellent day-to-day shoe that one could wear to the gym? Also, a resounding yes.
FootJoy Quantum Comfort and Performance:
Stepping out onto the course for the first time in these shoes, we were immediately impressed by the level of comfort and bounce provided by the SofFoam cushioning.
We would liken the ride to that of a running shoe, delivering energy return with every step you make.
In terms of overall fit, these shoes provide ample width around the heel, midfoot and toebox, which prevents any discomfort or overcrowding within the shoes.
The relatively wide base also provided a solid foundation for our swing, with the selection of different traction elements on the sole doing a good job of keeping our footing solid even on slightly damp grass.
In wetter winter rounds, these shoes might get called into question due to the low profile of the traction sole; however, for dry summer conditions, they will provide plenty of grip.
One area of the design that did cause us some initial discomfort was the high collar, particularly on the outside of the ankle.
During both walking and our swing, we felt the collar's height caused some digging around the ankle; however, once worn in, this thankfully did subside.
If you are someone who likes to walk the course and occasionally indulge in 36-hole days regularly, these shoes will be ideal.
Thanks to the quality of the SofFoam midsole, these shoes prevented foot fatigue and delivered ample bounce until the very last step.
All in all, apart from the slight issue we had with the collar right at the start of our testing, we found these shoes to be some of the most comfortable we have worn this year. They make for an excellent pair of hybrid shoes that you won't want to ever take off.
Should you buy a pair of FootJoy Quantum Golf Shoes?
If you're looking for a pair of golf shoes that can perform on the course and double up to be worn around town or to the gym, then the Quantums will likely tick all of those boxes.
The trainer-like design provides cloud-like comfort, while the modern construction also delivers excellent on-course stability and traction.
At just under £150, these shoes aren't cheap, but thanks to their premium construction, high-quality materials and versatility, they're well worth every penny.
