Sami Välimäki claims second DP World Tour title with Callaway
Finland's Sami Välimäki sealed his second DP World Tour title, beating Jorge Campillo in a playoff to win the Qatar Masters.
Callaway staffer Sami Välimäki claimed his second DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion, beating Spain's Jorge Campillo in a playoff to win the Qatar Masters.
Välimäki, 25, started the day one shot behind the overnight leader at Doha GC but managed to hold his nerve to shoot a 3-under 69 on Sunday in order to force a playoff with Campillo.
Full of twists and turns, his final round featured five birdies and two bogeys. And once he entered the playoff, it took him one hole to get the job done, carding a final birdie to beat Campillo's par.
The win marks Välimäki's second win on the DP World Tour, with his maiden title having come at the Oman Open in 2020.
The victory sees Valimaki rise 23 spots in the Race to Dubai rankings, now sitting seventh in the season-long standings heading into the penultimate tournament of the year, the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
As well as a long-awaited trophy, he also took home a winner's cheque worth €603,208.88.
Visibly emotional in his post-round interview, he had to fight back tears discussing the journey he's been on to rejoin the winner's circle.
