The new piece of equipment Jordan Spieth hopes will end PGA Tour drought
Jordan Spieth has revealed he was thinking about putting a 7-wood into his Titleist staff bag but he's now decided against it.
PGA Tour star Jordan Spieth has revealed he's gaming the new Titleist GT hybrid at the Cognizant Classic.
Spieth - who is playing PGA National for the first time as a professional this week - told reporters he's been thinking about putting a 7-wood into his bag.
Historically, the three-time major champion has been extremely selective with any equipment changes, often maintaining a consistent setup.
He's typically only used a 7-wood during U.S. Open weeks, he said, and despite liking what he saw at Torrey Pines a few weeks ago, Spieth has decided against putting it into play.
Instead, he has replaced his TSi2 hybrid with the newer model.
"I've gone back to the hybrid," Spieth said. "But the new hybrid, the GT."
He added: "For me, it's all about distance gaps. For a hybrid, it's about the look, first and foremost, and then can I hit a draw that spins enough, and from there the club is pretty easy for me.
"It passes the look test, hits the yardage window, and then I can turn it and have it stay in the air, are the combinations.
"I play a driving iron a few events a year, and then I've almost always played a hybrid.
"The only times I've played a 7-wood are the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and then the tournament a couple weeks ago. It's a good club.
"I was just hitting them last week, and the hybrid was just a little bit more consistent in accuracy for me."

Spieth will be playing the first two rounds of the Cognizant Classic alongside Rickie Fowler and Russell Henley.
He also told reporters that he's still not back to pre-injury form following his offseason wrist surgery.
"I'm just trying to find the right balance of rest and playing because it's not—I rested it for six days straight last week, and I came back, and it was way worse the first day," he said.
