PING G440 Irons Key Features:
  • Shorter face lowers CG for more ball speed, and higher launch
  • Thinner face flexes for more ball speed, saves weight to increase MOI
  • Four-piece, chrome-plated cavity badge increases flexing, damps vibrations

PING’s new G440 Irons round out the G440 range, offering forgiveness, power, high launch and stunning aesthetics.

Fresh for 2025, these irons have received some small technical refinements to improve performance, including a slightly shorter blade length, a thinner face, and a new four-piece chrome-plated back plate to improve sound and feel.

The game improvement sector is stacked this year with standout performers coming from Callaway and Cobra, so to see if PIONG offering could compete,  Alex Lodge and I took them out on the course before putting them through their paces at Foresight HQ with a GC Quad launch monitor.

Let’s get into it.

Player Level

The G440 Irons are ideal for high-handicap golfers or beginner golfers looking to max out forgiveness and power from their irons.

PING G440 Irons Looks and Feel

2025 has been a great year for good-looking game improvement irons, and PING has joined the list of the best in the business this year.

Thanks to a slightly shorter blade length, moderate topline and lovely new colourway, these irons tick many boxes for pure aesthetics.

The design features a suitably large cavity with a chrome-plated cavity badge that looks modern and still has a dash of colour without cheapening the overall look.

Different textures also elevate the design, with minimal PING branding rounding out the look.

While these don’t take the very top spot for looks when it comes to all the brand new irons for 2025, they are certainly close.

The only practical issue I can foresee with the design of these irons is the deep slot at the rear of the head, which could very easily get filled with mud in winter conditions and might not be that easy to clean.

In terms of feel, these irons are particularly potent. The slightly thinner face delivers a punchy sensation at impact, and the solid crack accompanying the feel is absolutely on the money.

There is also good feedback available across the face, which will come in very handy for those hoping to improve their ball striking.

PING G440 Irons Performance and Forgiveness

The one word that I could not get out of my head when reviewing these irons was power.

PING’s game improvement irons in the past have always packed a punch, but it has to be said, the G440s are particularly punchy.

As you can see from the numbers above, I could generate very impressive ball speeds with these clubs, and due to the slightly lower spin, the carry distances were also right up there with the longest irons I’ve tested in 2025.

While distance I great, it’s almost made redundant if you can’t get the ball to stop on the green, but thankfully, these irons are also able to launch the ball nice and high.

As a result, this meant that stopping power on greens was still achievable even though the spin rates were slightly lower than optimal.

Another area of performance where these irons really excelled was forgiveness. From across the face, ball speed and spin remained remarkably consistent. Some shots are unsavable, but from slightly out of the heel or toe, thanks to the slightly larger game improvement profile, there was a real consistency to the numbers, which you love to see.

Should you buy a set of PING G440 Irons?

If you want to buy a set of game improvement irons, the G440s should be very high on your list.

Forgiving, powerful and lovely to look at, they tick all the boxes.
