When it comes to performance player irons, Mizuno is one of the undisputed big hitters in golf.
The Japanese brand has been forging irons for the best players in the world for as long as I can remember, and as a result, it has earned a reputation for making the best feeling irons in golf.
The newest addition to Mizuno's player irons lineup is the S-3 range, which are designed for precision and control.
Mizuno claims these irons will offer unparalleled feel, finesse and versatility, so to put that to the test, myself and GolfMagic's Equipment Editor, Alex Lodge, put them to the test on the course, before digging deep into the numbers at Custom Golf Works.
Let's get into it.
Player Level
These irons are specifically made for the better player. The thin topline, compact blade length and narrow sole are utilised for precision and workability, meaning if you play off anything over five you should probably look elsewhere.
Mizuno Pro S-3 Irons Looks and Feel
I've banged on about Mizuno making fantastic looking irons, and you might be bored of hearing it, but they just keep knocking it out of the park.
These irons are so damn sexy. They're so good looking in fact they've inspired me to try and get down to being a scratch golfer this year just so I can justify putting them in the bag.
From the centred Mizuno Pro branding, to the single step in the shallow cavity, every single line and detail on these irons hits the spot.
Down at address these irons are instantly recognisable as being for the better player. The thin topline, minimal offset and compact blade length don't scream forgiveness, but they do instill a sense of precision and workability.
The brushed satin finish also looks superb, finishing off what in my eyes is one of the best looking irons of 2025.
In terms of feel, Mizuno has once again delivered. Thanks to the grain flow forged construction, these irons deliver a beautiful deep feeling at impact, that when middled almost feels like you haven't hit the ball at all.
There is plenty of feedback available from across the face, and while you will certainly know about shots out of the heel or toe, it's that responsiveness that the best players in the world love to see.
Turf interaction is also spot on, thanks mainly to the triple cut sole. The leading edge glides through the turf and thanks to relief on the rear edge, the sensation through contact is incredibly smooth.
Mizuno Pro S-3 Irons Performance and Feel
When I first laid eyes on these irons, I convinced myself they would be very workable, perhaps not too forgiving, and perhaps not the longest iron I would test in 2025.
I was right about one of those things, but dead wrong about the others.
As you can see from the numbers above, I was able to really get these irons out there from centred strikes.
The ball speed these irons were able to generate was really very impressive, considering they are built primarily for workability.
I wouldn't consider myself a premium ball striker, but I found that even from slightly out of the toe or heel, these irons did a superb job of retaining both speed and spin.
When hitting a six iron, I like to see the spin hover around the 6k mark, and as you can see above, these irons really did produce optimal numbers, just shy of 6k.
From really poor strikes, it has to be said there is a drop off, but that is absolutely what I expected.
These irons are built for serious players, and as a result workability is a key consideration. When it came to working the ball both ways, flighting them up, or down, they met my demands with aplomb.
Offering plenty of get up and go, real workability, and more forgiveness than I was expecting, these irons are really exceptional performers.
We try and use the term unicorn club sparingly here at GolfMagic but these really do fit the title. They are absolutely superb.
Should you buy the Mizuno Pro S-3 Irons?
Yes you should. If you are a serious golfer who wants a set of irons that not only look fantastic but also deliver premium performance and feel, then these are the irons you should get fitted for in 2025. It's as simple as that.
