WITB: Team USA Ryder Cup 2023
The picks are in, and Zach Johnson's US Ryder Cup Team is ready to do battle in Italy. But what's in the bags of the 12 players who have a seat on the plane?
Zach Johnson has picked an incredibly strong team to face Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup. Boasting three major winners from this year and six of the current top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings, team stars and stripes is absolutely packed full of talent.
There were some controversial selections in the captain's picks, with the likes of Keegan Bradley and Cam Young narrowly missing out, but with battle-worn players like Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth waiting in the wings, it always looked likely Johnson would rely on proven pairings to try and win in Europe for the first time since 1993.
So, with the 12 selections now fully confirmed, we wanted to take a closer look at what clubs each player will be using to try and claim Ryder Cup glory at the Marco Simone course in September.
Scottie Scheffler WITB Ryder Cup 2023
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has had a fantastic year on the PGA Tour and has basically been a locked pick since his victory at the 2022 Masters. The imperious ball striker has led the Tour this year in almost every single strokes gained category except one, putting.
Scheffler's putter has gone cold on him this year, and without it, he could find himself struggling in a match-play scenario, where making long putts can often be the difference between winning and losing.
If he can get the flat stick to heat up a bit, he will be a nightmare match-up for anyone on Team Europe, but Luke Donald's team will have undoubtedly spotted a little weakness in the American's armour and will be hoping to take advantage of it.

Wyndham Clark WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Wyndham Clark has had a sensational breakthrough year on Tour in 2023, in which he won his first PGA Tour title and first major championship at the US Open.
Locking in his position on the team nice and early, Clark will be hoping to continue his fine form from this season into his debut as a rookie at the Ryder Cup.
One-time PGA Tour winner and now on-course commentator Smylie Kaufman is backing Clark to be paired with Collin Morikawa in Rome, with Clark filling the fairly large Dustin Johnson sized hole in the pairing that was so formidable at Whistling Straights two years ago.

Patrick Cantlay WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Patrick Cantlay has been Mr. Consistent this season, only missing two cuts and finishing within the top 10 in almost half of his 21 starts.
Rarely putting a foot wrong, Cantlay will be a versatile weapon in the Ryder Cup thanks to his lack of weaknesses and steely mentality.
Having formed a ferocious partnership with good friend Xander Schauffele at the 2021 Ryder Cup, I think we can look forward to more of the same, with the pair having gone unbeaten at Whistling Straights.
Cantlay's record of 3-0-1 saw him pick up the joint most points in 2021, and he will be hoping he can repeat his heroics when he touches down in Rome in a month's time.

Brian Harman WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Somewhat the surprise package of 2023, Harman won The Open in commanding fashion at Royal Liverpool and managed to amass a further three second-place finishes on the PGA Tour to further solidify his position as an automatic pick for the Ryder Cup.
Currently ranked as the No.1 scrambler on the PGA Tour, Harman's short-game magic will undoubtedly be called on in Rome, and when you throw in the fact that he is the best putter in the world from six feet, he could be the ideal man to pair up with Scottie Scheffler and his ice-cold putter.

Max Homa WITB Ryder Cup 2023
The ever-popular American had a sensational Presidents Cup debut in 2022, finishing the tournament with a 4-0-0 record, and Zach Johnson will be hoping for more of the same from the rookie in Rome.
With two wins and 11 top-10 finishes this season, Homa is bang in form and will be feeling optimistic about his chances of seeing plenty of game time when the two teams meet in September.

Xander Schauffele WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Making his second Ryder Cup appearance, Schauffele formed an excellent partnership with Patrick Cantlay in 2021, and we will likely see the two of them teeing it up together again in Rome.
Schauffele finished the 2021 Ryder Cup with a record of 3-1-0, and if his PGA Tour form this year is anything to go by, he might go one better this year.
Demonstrating incredible consistency this season, the American hasn't missed a single cut and has 17 top-25 finishes, including ten in the top 10.

Brooks Koepka WITB Ryder Cup 2023
The only LIV Golf player in the team, Koepka muscled his way into it in true Koepka style. Winning the PGA Championship to claim his fifth major, there was surely no way Zach Johnson could pass him up with the form he's in.
The Srixon man had a fantastic major season, also finishing T-2 at The Masters and T-17 at the US Open, and he'll be hoping he can carry that good form into his fourth Ryder Cup appearance.

Jordan Spieth WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Making his fifth Ryder Cup appearance for Team USA, Spieth has a respectable 8-7-3 record in the Ryder Cup, including 5-2-0 in Four-balls. His never-die attitude has also seen him come from behind in six of his eight victories.
Following a solid season on the PGA Tour, Spieth had the third-most top-5 finishes in the last six months (5) behind only Scottie Scheffler (9) and Rory McIlroy (7).
Having formed a fearsome partnership with his best friend Justin Thomas, it's likely the pair will be united once again in Rome.

Justin Thomas WITB Ryder Cup 2023
One of the more controversial Captain's picks, Thomas' inclusion raised some eyebrows amongst fans and pundits due to his loss of form this season.
Thomas has been at odds with his game in 2023, missing the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time in his career, and some have speculated as to whether he will be able to turn his form around in such a short period of time.
Fans of the two-time major champion have been quick to defend him, though, sighting his impressive 6-2-1 record in the tournament as the key reason for his inclusion.
His fiery temperament and love for getting the crowd up will have undoubtedly been a key factor in his selection, and if his best friend and likely partner, Jordan Spieth, can ignite a spark of inspiration, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Collin Morikawa WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Coming off a solid season on the PGA Tour that saw him collect ten top 25s and two runners-up finishes, Morikawa will be looking to build on an impressive Ryder Cup debut in which he finished with a 3-0-1 record.
Morikawa formed a formidable partnership with Dustin Johnson in 2021, but with the LIV golfer not making the team this year, Morikawa will have to find a new partner to go into battle with. Don't be surprised to see him team up with Wyndham Clark when the tournament starts in a month's time.

Rickie Fowler WITB Ryder Cup 2023
After missing out on selection in 2021, Rickie Fowler returns to Team USA after a bounce-back year that saw him win on the PGA Tour at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and amass an additional eight top-10 finishes, including a T-5 at the US Open.
Making his fifth Ryder Cup appearance, Fowler will be hoping to improve upon his mixed record of 3-7-5.

Sam Burns WITB Ryder Cup 2023
Making his Ryder Cup debut, Sam Burns has a mixed record in match-play golf, having struggled at the 2022 President's Cup, finishing with a 0-3-2 record. However, his win at the Dell Technologies Match Play in March has proven that he can go toe to toe with the best in the world to get the job done.
One of four rookies on the side, don't be surprised to see Burns team up with one of the more experienced players on the side to help guide him through what will undoubtedly be an intense and nervy three days.
