Best junior golfers in south east primed for Masters

The finest U16 golfers in the south east will contest the prestigious Roehampton Junior Masters at the south London venue on September 29.

In only its second season, the Masters has already established itself as one of the most respected on the junior golf circuit due both to the strength of the field and quality of the venue.

The 36-hole scratch competition will attract a maximum field of 54 players (36 boys and 18 girls) who, in familiar Masters style, qualify for invitations according to their performance in selected events during the season.

The top five boys in the U16 county championships for Hampshire, Middlesex, Sussex, Surrey and Kent gain automatic entry, while three girls from each of the same counties will be selected from Girls Junior County Week at Ealing Golf Club.

The remaining spaces will be allocated as ‘Wild Cards’ to the most promising Surrey golfers and Roehampton Club members.

The Club’s CEO, Marc Newey, said: “Roehampton is proud to host such a prestigious addition to the junior golf calendar and one which reflects and reinforces the club’s commitment to the development of golfing talent throughout our own junior programme.

“The qualifying process for the Roehampton Junior Masters not only guarantees the region’s top juniors receive invitations but also ensures the event is highly anticipated throughout the course of the season.”

The qualifying Under 16 junior county championships for the Roehampton Junior Masters are as follows:

Hampshire: April 8, Corhampton GC
Middlesex: July 30, Wyke Green GC
Sussex: August 6, Eastbourne Downs GC
Surrey: August 13, Reigate Hill
Kent: August 26, St Augustine’s
