Former Open champion Shane Lowry has split with his long-time caddie Brian "Bo" Martin as the pair have reportedly lost their competitive spark.

As reported by the Independent.ie, Lowry and Martin had considered parting ways for some time and their partnership of over four years had lost its "spark."

The successful duo considered splitting up after the Hero Cup where Lowry scored no points for Great Britain and Ireland and after the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship too.

Lowry and Martin enjoyed the best times of his career so far. They won The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2019 and just last September, he sensationally won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Their last completion together proved to be last week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, but the 35-year-old missed the cut with rounds of 70 and 75.

There were signs of tension between the pair during last year's Masters when Lowry was filmed cussing at Bo.

Dermot Byrne caddied for Lowry for about nine years before Martin took up the role at the Portugal Masters in 2018. Martin has previously caddied for Alex Levy and Lucas Bjerregaard.

European golf fans can definitely expect Lowry to be part of Luke Donald's team at the Ryder Cup in Rome, so a quick appointment to his bag could be crucial.

Lowry was recently named as one of the 14 players on the Player Advisory Council on the PGA Tour, so he may have significant responsibilities both on and off the course in 2023.

There are four Elevated Events coming in the next seven weeks on the PGA Tour and Lowry will be hoping to regain his mojo and add to his tally of two wins on the American circuit.
