Wentworth (West): 539 yards, par-5

With the massive advances in equipment technology, it was felt that in certain key areas the West course at Wentworth no longer played quite as Harry Colt, its original designer had intended. So a process of modernisation and restoration was undertaken by Wentworth resident and seven-time World Matchplay champion Ernie Els.

The renovation started in 2005 with extensive re-bunkering and lengthening of certain holes with final phase concluded in March 2010 the re-modelling of the 18th hole.

A new tee was created bringing the bunkers on the dogleg and the rough on the right into play. But more dramatic was a sleeper-banked stream weaving its way along the right from 100 yards short of the green and in front of it. Mounding and bunkers were introduced, flanking and beyond the green, to add depth and character.
