Plans are being prepared to convert a golf-ball-shaped military base into a space museum and educational centre in Scotland.

As reported by BBC News, the building, based in Balado in Perth and Kinross, used to be a Nato communications building until 2006.

Aero Space Kinross, which aims to "inspire young people through play-based STEAM-related educational activities," wants to buy and repurpose the property as an "aerospace discovery centre."

The group also wants to present local aviation history to local communities and "foster an inclusive and accessible environment to ensure all visitors can enjoy the centre regardless of background."

It is currently in the process of acquiring the building. The Tay Cities Region Deal, which will see the Scottish Government and the UK Government invest £150 million each in the region, has allocated £1.6 million for this project.

The group intends to secure more funding for the project and it is in the process of preparing a full planning application which will be submitted to Perth and Kinross Council.

Aero Space Kinross say it could provide science and engineering graduates with hugely improved career prospects and create up to 25 full-time jobs.

As well as creating work opportunities for young people, it could also attract up to 50,000 visitors as well as 10,000 school pupils.
