Isao Aoki - 1983 Hawaiian Open
Isao Aoki stood on the 72nd hole, one shot behind Jim Renner as he went in search of the 1983 Hawaiian Open.
As Aoki reached for his pitching wedge to play his third shot to the par-5 last, it was hard to predict whether or not the Japanese golfer would even be able to make what seemed like a tough birdie. His third shot became something nobody expected as Aoki holed out for eagle and the win.
Aoki received a well-deserved induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004, but despite going on to nine first place Champions Tour finishes, that historic win in Hawaii in 1983 would remain his only PGA Tour victory. For his part, Renner would get redemption by winning the Hawaiian Open the very next year.
