US Open Golf 2022 LIVE: Final Round Scores & Updates

England's Matt Fitzpatrick holds off World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris to win his first PGA Tour title and first major championship at Brookline.

Matt Fitzpatrick has won his first major championship - and first PGA Tour title - with an incredible victory at the US Open at Brookline, also the scene of his US Amateur triumph in 2013.

Fitzpatrick, 27, carded a final-round 68 to finish 6-under par and one shot clear of playing partner Will Zalatoris and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.

The Englishman now joins the great Jack Nicklaus as the only other player to win the US Open and US Amateur on the same golf course. Nicklaus achieved the feat when winning his second US Amateur in 1961 and his third of four US Open titles in 1972 at Pebble Beach.

Fitzpatrick also becomes just the fourth Englishman to win the US Open in the last 100 years, joining Cyril Walker (1924), Tony Jacklin (1970, Hazeltine) and Justin Rose (2013, Merion).

Matt Fitzpatrick is the US OPEN CHAMPION!

MATT FITZPATRICK IS THE US OPEN CHAMPION!

You really couldn't write it! He won the US Amateur in Brookline in 2013 and he has now won his first major title and first PGA Tour victory.

With his 72nd tee shot, he found the fairway bunker and it appeared he'd have to look for a layup in the fairway.

From 160 yards, the Englishman hit one of the best shots you'll ever see to the heart of the green and he two-putted for a 68.

Zalatoris couldn't hole his birdie putt and it is his second major runner-up finish of 2022.

Fitzpatrick is the first-ever player from outside of America to win both the US Open and the US Amateur.

Incredible, incredible stuff...

ONE HOLE LEFT: Fitzpatrick leads by one from Zalatoris

Well, we are at the 72nd hole of the 2022 US Open at The Country Club in Brookline.

Both Matt Fitzpatrick and Will Zalatoris parred the 17th hole and with one hole left, the Englishman leads the American by one on 6-under.

Scottie Scheffler carded a 67 to finish on 5-under, he is the leader in the clubhouse.

What will the 18th hole bring...

23:26
Scottie is now one behind! Leaderboard update!

Incredible stuff in Brookline! After a stellar approach on the 17th hole from 80 yards, Scottie Scheffler calmly rolls in his birdie putt to reach 5-under.

He is one shot behind Matt Fitzpatrick, who holed a crucial birdie putt on the 15th hole to take a two-shot lead for a brief moment.

Meanwhile, on 16, Fitzpatrick makes a safe par and Will Zalatoris makes a BOUNCE BACK BIRDIE to get back to 5-under!

As it stands:

-6 M Fitzpatrick (16)

-5 W Zalatoris (16), S Scheffler (17)

Fitzpatrick TAKES THE LEAD by TWO!

It's a two-shot swing on the 15th hole in favour of Matt Fitzpatrick! He played an outstanding approach from 225 yards out to the heart of the green.

After Will Zalatoris rolled his long bogey putt short, the Englishman capitalised and holed his birdie putt to reach 6-under for the week.

Could this be the decisive blow in the World No.16 winning his first major title and first PGA Tour victory?

22:50
Rory is only three behind...

Rory McIlroy couldn't make a comeback, could he?!

He rolls in another putt for his fifth birdie of the day on the par-4 15th hole to reach 2-under-par for the week.

The Northern Irishman has also made four bogeys today in Brookline, but he is only three shots back...

Fitzpatrick holes MONSTER BIRDIE PUTT!

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Matt Fitzpatrick holes a huge 50 FOOT putt on the 13th green to hit the top of the leaderboard!

He was looking for a two-putt but found some magic to reach 5-under alongside Zalatoris who made an amazing par save on the same hole.

Meanwhile, on the par-5 14th hole, Scottie Scheffler misses a short birdie putt to tie for the lead. He is one shot behind on 4-under...

22:33
Is Denny McCarthy in this?!

With three holes left of his final round, Denny McCarthy is just three shots behind!

The American has made four birdies and just one bogey at The Country Club today to move into tied fifth place!

He has found the heart of the par-3 16th hole with a good look at birdie...

22:24
Zalatoris leads by one with six holes left! Matsuyama posts 3-under!

Will Zalatoris hit a wayward drive into the long grass on the 12th hole, forcing himself to hack out to the middle of the fairway.

He went on to make a bogey with Fitzpatrick making a safe par. Zalatoris is one shot ahead on 5-under-par, while the Englishman and Scottie Scheffler are one shot behind.

Hideki Matsuyama carded a superb round of 65 on Sunday to set the clubhouse lead on 3-under-par.

Is this mark too far back for the former Masters champion to win his second major?

22:09
Will Zalatoris leads on his own and Fitzpatrick three-putts!

Wow, what an incredible turnaround from Will Zalatoris!

Having made two bogeys in his first three holes, the young American is now on top of the leaderboard at 6-under!

After making a birdie on the 11th hole he is two shots clear of Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler on 4-under.

Unexpectedly, Fitzpatrick three-putted the par-3 11th hole to fall victim to a two-shot swing...

21:59
Fitzpatrick and Zalatoris tied at the top after 10 holes!

Matt Fitzpatrick found the sand with his approach shot on the par-4 10th hole and fails to get up and down!

The Englishman makes his second bogey of the day to fall back to 5-under and he is level with Will Zalatoris.

Scottie Scheffler is on 4-under on the 12th hole, while Hideki Matsuyama has reached 3-under with just two holes remaining...

21:50
Scheffler is now two behind!

An incredible turn of events now sees World No.1 Scottie Scheffler fall two shots behind Matt Fitzpatrick after a bogey on the 11th hole.

Having led for much of the front nine, Scheffler is now back to 4-under par after back-to-back bogeys.

The 25-year-old has conceded second place to Will Zalatoris who is currently on 5-under...

21:43
Fitzpatrick leads on his own with nine to play!

After Scottie Scheffler makes his first bogey of the day at the 10th hole, he falls one behind Matt Fitzpatrick with only the back nine of the US Open to play!

Meanwhile, Will Zalatoris hits the perfect putt on the 9th hole for a birdie to reach 5-under with Scheffler.

We certainly have an exciting final nine holes left in Brookline...

21:35
Can anyone else make a charge?

So far, the final round of the US Open has been dominated by Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler who co-lead on 6-under.

Right now, Will Zalatoris is putting up a fight on 4-under after beginning with two early bogeys.

Can Jon Rahm (-1), Hideki Matsuyama (-2), Denny McCarthy (-2) or Joel Dahmen (-2) make a charge in Brookline?

21:30
Fitzpatrick is fighting on!

Matt Fitzpatrick picks up another birdie on the par-5 8th hole to co-lead with Scottie Scheffler on 6-under!

The Englishman hit two booming shots down this 561-yard hole and he had a good look at an eagle.

He tapped in for his third birdie of the day and he and Scheffler have a two-shot cushion over Zalatoris...

21:26
Can Rory McIlroy still win?

Heading into his last nine holes of the 2022 US Open, Rory McIlroy is five shots behind Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick.

He has made another par on the 10th hole and it seems time is running out for him to win his second US Open title.

Can the 33-year-old begin a back-nine charge to win his first major in eight years?

21:11
Hideki is making a move!

Hideki Matsuyama is just four shots behind after holing a huge putt on the 13th hole!

The former Masters champion was faced with a huge 40-foot putt on the hardest hole on the course and he boxed it to receive huge applause from the Boston crowd!

He is just four shots behind Scottie Scheffler, but could he run out of holes?!

Fitzpatrick and Scheffler FOUR CLEAR of the rest!

Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler have been absolutely relentless in the final round of the US Open!

With a birdie on the short par-4 5th hole, Fitzpatrick meets Scheffler on 6-under and they are four shots clear of the large group of players on 2-under.

The Englishman is drawing on his experience at The Country Club in Brookline, having won the US Amateur here in 2013...

20:41
Scottie in front again!

It is vintage Scottie Scheffler on Sunday at the US Open! He is now four-under through his first six holes!

On the par-3 6th hole, Scheffler rolls in another 13-footer to reach 6-under for the week and to lead by one shot from Matt Fitzpatrick.

Scheffler began well and capitulated in the third round in Brookline, but can he maintain this incredible form in this final round?!

20:25
Fitzpatrick birdie to co-lead followed by Zalatoris bogey!

Matt Fitzpatrick means business! The Englishman superbly birdies the 3rd hole to move into a share of the lead on 5-under with Scottie Scheffler.

However, Will Zalatoris has taken another step backwards with a bogey on the 3rd hole.

The man who lost in a playoff at the US PGA Championship to Justin Thomas is now three shots behind Fitzpatrick and Scheffler...

20:19
Scheffler is our new leader on 5-under!

Scottie Scheffler is off to a flyer! He has made three birdies in his opening four holes to lead the US Open on 5-under-par!

The Masters champion hit his approach on the par-4 4th hole to 23 feet and he found the bottom of the cup.

The World No.1 is having a monumental season in 2022 and it isn't over yet at all...

20:10
Bounce back from McIlroy and Zalatoris bogeys!

You never know what is coming next from Rory McIlroy! In his first four holes, he has made already made two birdies and one bogey.

This time on the 4th green, the 33-year-old boxes a 21-foot putt to get back to 2-under for the day.

He is two shots behind Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler after Will Zalatoris, unfortunately, bogeys the 2nd hole.

His playing partner Fitzpatrick has opened with two solid pars on Sunday...

20:03
Bradley makes a poor start...

Keegan Bradley began the final round two shots behind Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick, but his day began in disastrous fashion.

The former US PGA champion has made two bogeys in his first two holes and suddenly, he is four shots behind the leaders.

How quickly things can change on this challenging course in Brookline...
