Pavon -2 (5)
Matthieu Pavon eagles the fifth hole to get to two-under.
Pavon -2 (5)
Matthieu Pavon eagles the fifth hole to get to two-under.
Fitzpatrick (+1), Woods (+1), Zalatoris (+1)
That's a pretty decent effort from Tiger there.
He'll be kicking himself about those back-to-back bogeys, mind.
T. Woods +1 (8*)
After such a steady start, Woods three-putts the 17th green courtesy of a clumsy lag putt that finished about ten feet past the pin. The second wouldn't drop either and now Woods has dropped two shots in two holes.
That one was avoidable and will really sting for the 15-time major champion.
B. Koepka -2 (7)
The two-time US Open Champion made a birdie on the 7th hole to move into a tie for the lead.
He's joined at the top by Logan McAllister. However, McAllister has just knocked his ball way left into the trees on the 11th hole, so we could be looking at a solo lead for Koepka shortly.
T. Woods E (7*)
A great effort for par slides by the right side of the cup, which means Woods' par run has sadly come to an end.
He now moves back to level par with 25 other players.
L. Aberg -1 (4*)
Aberg fails to get up and down from the bunker on the 13th hole and sees himself drop a shot, leaving himself in a 15-way tie at the top.
It doesn't look like Pinehurst No.2 will offer up many birdie opportunities today, so par saves will be just as valuable.
T. Woods -1 (6*)
After a birdie on the 1st, Tiger has been quietly going about his business with five pars in a row.
Martin Kaymer said he believes the winning score could be over par this week, so if Woods can continue as is, he will be in a great spot come Sunday.
1st | L. Aberg | -2 | 4* |
T2 | T. Woods | -1 | 5* |
T2 | B. Koepka | -1 | 5* |
T2 | P. Cantlay | -1 | 4* |
T2 | Finau | -1 | 4* |
C. Conners E (5)
The Canadian rolls in a lengthy eagle putt on the 5th hole to atone for his double bogey on the 2nd.
He now moves into the very crowded pack sat at level par.
L. Aberg -2 (3*)
The young Swede is off to a hot start with two birdies in his first three holes.
He now has a share of the lead at two-under with Logan McAllister.
Can he emulate his heroics at Augusta? Only time will tell.
Woods -1 (4*)
Tiger's putter is red hot, as he makes another lengthy par save on the 13th hole to remain one shot back from the leader at one-under.
Promising stuff from Woods so far, but he will undoubtedly be hoping for a couple of tap-in pars in the next few holes to ease the pressure.
Woods -1 (3*)
After finding a bunker with his wayward second shot on the 12th, Woods hit a sublime shot from the sand and followed it in with a beautiful par putt to stay at one-under.
We've already seen some loose shots from Woods, with the right miss appearing to be in play today.
Thankfully, his short game has been as sharp as ever so far, and he's been very impressive off the tee, too.
T. Finau -1 (1*)
The long-hitting American made light work of the par-five 10th, leaving himself with a three-footer for birdie, which he neatly tucked away to move to one-under.
Matt Fitzpatrick made a superb birdie on the 10th hole to start his round, but after his approach fed off the back of the 11th green, the Englishman failed to keep his putt on the green and gave a shot straight back.
We've already seen how tricky these greens are going to be, a number of players have tried putting from off the greens, only to see their balls roll straight back to their feet.
Logan McAllister makes the first eagle of the week, coming on the 5th hole.
He now moves into the lead at -2.
Tiger Woods drains a 10-footer for birdie at the par-5 10th to move into an early tie for the lead.
After a brilliant drive he went right into the wire grass. But he played a delightful pitch shot into 10 feet and buried the putt.
Nice start from Woods, who is bidding to win the US Open for a fourth time.
Sky Sports Golf lead commentator Ewen Murray:
"The most important club in the bag this week is patience."
He could very well be bang on with that assessment.
CBS Sports lead analyst and 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman has just provied a huge update on Tiger Woods at the US Open.
Ireland's Seamus Power has just birdied the 11th, his second hole of the day, to move into a tie for the lead on 1-under par alongside Mexican amateur Omar Morales.
Tiger Woods is off and running and he's pumped it down the middle of the fairway at the par-5 10th.
American amateur Parker Bell has birdied the par-4 1st to take the early lead.
Bell qualified for this first US Open this week after finishing T6 in the Dallas qualifier last month.
