US Open final round: LIVE leaderboard, updates from Pinehurst No.2

Welcome to live golf scores, updates and commentary from the fourth and final round of the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2.

Bryson DeChambeau claims a second US Open title with a stunning up and down on the 18th hole to beat Rory McIlroy by one shot.

The dramatic finish at Pinehurst No.2 saw DeChambeau needing a par coming down the final hole to secure victory.

Having hit a wayward tee shot, the LIV Golf star was forced to punch out from the left rough, with his ball finding its way into a greenside bunker.

From there, DeChambeau was faced with a difficult 50-yard bunker shot, which he expertly navigated to about five feet.

With a short putt standing between him and a second US Open title, DeChambeau confidently stroked his par putt home, and victory was his.

While DeChambeau's victory was well deserved, it will be a day to forget for Rory Mcilroy, who had victory snatched away from him by two short missed putts.

Heartbreak for McIlroy

McIlroy came into the final round three shots back from DeChambeau, but some superb shot-making saw him chase down the American and overtake him on the back nine.

Unfortunately, McIlroy's putter went cold down the closing stretch, and three bogeys in his last four holes condemned him to another heartbreaking major finish.

Two missed short putts will leave plenty of scar tissue for the Northern Irishman as his search for a fifth major goes on.

McIlroy drops a shot

McIlroy -4, Cantlay -3 (5)

That was brutally unlucky for McIlroy.

His approach finds a disgusting lie and he had absolutely nothing.

Completely short-sided.

McIlroy elects to try and nudge one onto the putting surface but finds the trap.

He splashes out, but can't save par, his putt missing agonisingly low.

Meanwhile Cantlay's good look at birdie misses high.

It never really had a chance, in truth.

20:23
First mistake for Bryson

DeChambeau -6, Pavon -3 (4)

DeChambeau fires his approach long of the fourth green.

He elects to putt instead of chip and his golf ball comes up well short.

DeChambeau can't save par from 16 feet and that's his first dropped shot of the day.

He falls back to six-under.

Pavon also endured a similar fate.

20:19
How unlucky for McIlroy

McIlroy splits the fairway again at the par-5 fifth.

He sends a towering iron shot into the green.

Can it hold the putting surface? Please?

Nope.

It rolls off the green some 30 yards into the native area.

Up and down for birdie required...

20:11
Finau eagle

Finau -1, Hatton +3 (5)

Well, it's not been a great start for Tyrrell.

But he just about cracks a smile after a birdie at the par-5 fifth to claw one back.

Meanwhile Big Tone chips in for eagle.

He's not out of it...

20:10
Cantlay goes backwards

Cantlay -3, McIlroy -5 (4)

Cantlay's par putt just misses left and he drops back to three-under.

Can McIlroy save his par?

He left himself a slider, up the hill.

Of course he can.

It catches the left edge.

Huge.

20:07
Work to do for Cantlay and McIlroy

McIlroy misses the green right at the fourth.

He's not happy.

Cantlay is also in the bunker, but he splashes out and leaves himself an outside chance of saving par.

20:02
Pavon rebounds

Pavon -4 (3)

The Frenchman started, understandably so, very nervously with a bogey.

But he moves back to four-under with a birdie at the third.

It's all evenly poised, isn't it?

20:01
Two pars for Bryson

DeChambeau -7 (2)

DeChambeau's birdie putt at the second hole is about a foot short.

A conservative start...

19:55
All quiet at the top

There is not much movement on the leaderboard at the moment, as the pars are dropping in all over the place.

DeChambeau won't mind at all, but the chasers will need to start making moves in the easier early portion of the course if they want to put some pressure on the leader.

Sloppy start for Pavon

Pavon -3 (1)

A costly three-putt sees Pavon drop a shot on the 1st hole.

Not the start he needed.

19:31
Double trouble for Aberg

Aberg E (2)

Disaster for Aberg as he cards a double bogey on the 2nd hole.

That was not the start the young Swede needed. He's now seven shots back from DeChambeau.

19:26
Birdie for McIlroy

McIlroy -5 (1)

Rory McIlroy gets off to a perfect start with a great putt for birdie on the first hole.

He's now closed the gap with DeChambeau to just two shots.

19:24
DeChambeau in a divot

So unlucky for Bryson DeChambeau as his tee shot on the first hole rolled straight into a divot.

Fingers crossed, he can escape unscathed.

19:16
A pair of pars

Aberg -2, Matsuyama -2 (1)

Having found the fairway with their tee shots, both Aberg and Matsuyama managed to miss the green with a short iron in hand.

Thankfully, both showed some good touch to get up and down to remain at two under.

19:13
Bryson DeChambeau has switched driver head

It's hard to believe, but DeChambeau has just changed his driver head on the range, unwrapping his new one straight out of the plastic.

He was spotted measuring his driver head on the practice range before making the switch.

He tees off in just under ten minutes!

19:05
Straight down the middle from Aberg and Matsuyama

Aberg -2, Matsuyama -2 (1)

The first simply requires an iron shot from the tee, and Aberg and Matsuyama both deliver. The pair find the short grass with their tee shots.

A couple of early birdies are needed for both as they look to close the gap on DeChambeau.

18:50
A man of the people

Bryson DeChambeau is a popular figure at Pinehurst this week.

Clearly at ease before his final round, the big-hitting American took some time to show some love to his fans.

Good to see.

18:44
Sandy delight for Schauffele

Schauffele +1 (3)

Schauffele shows off some magic from the sand to hole out for birdie on the third hole.

He moves back to +1 to make up for his bogey on the 1st hole.

Schauffele was one of the favourites heading into the week after his US PGA win,  but he's too far back now to trouble DeChambeau.

Morikawa gets under way

Morikawa E (1)

The two-time major champion gets his final round underway with a beautiful iron shot down the 1st that splits the fairway.

His playing partner, Corey Conners, is less fortunate; however, he finds the thick rough off the tee.

18:23
Adam Scott finishes in style

Scott +7 (69)

Adam Scott finishes up on the 18th with a birdie to record his lowest round of the week (69).

The Australian managed to card three birdies in his last six holes. What would DeChambeau give to have a similar finish today?

3,598 days since Rory McIlroy's last major win

Rory McIlroy hasn't tasted major success since his 2014 US PGA Championship win.

The Northern Irishman starts today just three shots behind DeChambeau and his game has looked as sharp as ever over the first three days.

Would there be a more popular winner today than McIlroy?

An iconic pin position on 18

Today, the 18th pin position is the same as it was when Payne Stewart recorded his iconic win in 1999.

Will we see a similar celebration from today's winner?

Matthieu Pavon is on the property

Pavon is aiming to become the first Frenchman to win a major since Arnaud Massey in 1907.

He's rocked up wearing a t-shirt from the US PGA at Valhalla with a backwards cap, looking quietly confident.

Pavon tees off at 2:21 EDT alongside Bryson DeChambeau.
