Patrick Reed says he 'putted like a blind man' during the opening round of the 2025 Masters Tournament.

The 2018 green jacket winner hit a 1-under 71 at Augusta National on Thursday afternoon.

But the former pantomime villain of the Ryder Cup was not happy with his performance whatsoever.

The 34-year-old said his putter was on 'vacation' and needs to 'get on a flight and meet me here'.

"P--- poor," he told reporters when asked to assess his round. "[It's] pretty simple. [I] hit it fine, missed it in the wrong spots, and putted like a blind man.

"I expected the greens [to be faster], just from previous years when they kind of have that type of look, I just kept leaving putts short.

"I thought they'd be faster. Just kept leaving them a little short. When I finally got the ball to the hole, didn't have the right read.

"Hit the ball fine and putted horribly."

Reed said there was a low score out there given the conditions.

Reigning champion Scottie Scheffler raced out of the blocks with a bogey-free 4-under 68.

Asked what he needs to do better tomorrow, Reed said: "I'd better learn to putt better. Plain and simple. I gave myself plenty of looks."

Reed said that he only missed one fairway but he missed it in the right spot and was able to salvage a par.

"Besides that, I hit it fine. I just couldn't make a putt at all. That's the biggest problem.

"You have to make putts out here. At least I feel like the ball was starting straight. Just couldn't get the ball to the hole."

Reed is one of 12 LIV Golf recruits in the field this week.

Cameron Smith hit the same score as Reed and later told reporters what inspired him to wear a navy blazer to Wednesday's practice session.
