The Masters 2024: Augusta National announces small, but key course change
Augusta National has announced one small but key change to the course for the 2024 Masters: Here is everything you need to know about it.
Augusta National has announced one small, but key change to the course ahead of the 2024 Masters.
The club has been busy over the last few years making some significant modifications.
One of the biggest changes we have seen in recent years saw the par-5 13th lengthened by 40 yards.
That modification drew a mixed reaction from golf fans and even competitors in the field.
Fred Couples played in a practice round with Rory McIlroy and said the Northern Irishman still only had a 5-iron into the green after his tee shot.
In short, Couples appeared to think the hole was still relatively straightforward for the biggest hitters. "I won't go for it," he said.
"But it ain't about me; it's about the best players and how far they're hitting it.”
Xander Schauffele took a different perspective and stated the change "puts you in no man's land".
"The green is so small from left to right off a hook lie," he said. "It's kind of a no-brainer, honestly. You just lay up. There's not much to it."
It will come as no surprise to you that Bryson DeChambeau was excited by the new-look hole.
Changes have also been made to the 11th and 15th holes in recent years.
This year? Well, officials have stated the tee box on the par-5 second, Ping Dogwood, has been moved back and to the left by about 10 yards.
It appears this was done in effort to try and bring the right fairway bunker more into play.
The 48th Masters takes place over 11-14 April. Jon Rahm is the defending champion.
