Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka says he knows that time is running out for him to win the coveted Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

Brooks Koepka says 'something better change' as he knows time is running out for him to win the Masters Tournament

Koepka has picked up five major titles in his career so far but victory at Augusta National or on the other side of the pond at an Open Championship has eluded him.

The American came close to winning a green jacket in 2023 when he played in the final group alongside Jon Rahm but ultimately finished four shots behind the Spaniard.

Koepka told reporters before LIV Golf Sentosa he thought his performances in the majors last year 'weren't there'.

"I don't really focus on trying to win," Koepka, who also addressed rumours of a PGA Tour return, said.

"I just go do what I've got to do, make sure my game is sharp coming around the four majors."

He added: "Last year I thought was a pretty down year. I didn't think it was good.

"The major performances weren't there. I never really felt like I was in complete control of my golf ball from tee to green.

"This year I feel a lot better all striking-wise, short game-wise, putting-wise.

"Typically I'm a slow starter. I've never gotten off any season I've played professionally to a hot start.

"Usually it takes a couple rounds just to get going. But we're running out of time here for Augusta, so something better change."

This is not the first time Koepka has offered a candid self-assessment of his performances in the majors.

Before this season began, Koepka opened up on his choke at Augusta National in 2023.

In the immediate aftermath of that hugely disappointing result, Koepka told reporters he knew exactly why he lost.

But he refused to divulge any further details.

Then, at the turn of the year, he told YouTuber Rick Shiels that he simply wanted to win the major so bad that he simply got too far ahead of himself.

"I couldn't take my own advice," he previously said.

"It's easy to say it, right? But in the moment when you're doing it you're like 'I want to win Augusta, I've always wanted to do this' and you've got the opportunity - it's right there in front of you. All you've got to do is finish 18 more holes.

"And I got so far ahead. And when you get so far ahead you lose what's going on and it just became a disaster and a snowball effect and you're just going down and down."

Koepka also said he believed he wouldn't have been able to win the US PGA Championship later that year had he not endured that tough finish at Augusta.

The 2025 Masters will be played over 10-13 April.
