Tommy Fleetwood caddie: Who carries the golf clubs for the Ryder Cup star?
Tommy Fleetwood has had Ian Finnis carry his clubs since 2016. Here is everything you need to know about their journey together.
Tommy Fleetwood's caddie is the charismatic Ian Finnis.
Fleetwood met Finnis when he was a teenager whilst he was working as an assistant professional at Formby Hall Golf Club near Southport.
Fleetwood turned professional in 2010 and six years later he hired Finnis as his full-time looper. The rest is history.
Over the years, they have tasted two European Ryder Cup victories together and lifted numerous titles on the DP World Tour.
A victory in a major championship or on the US PGA Tour still eludes Fleetwood, though.
Health complications
At the beginning of 2024, Finnis was rushed into hospital after a virus he contracted turned into something more serious.
It turned out that bacteria got into a pre-existing hole in his heart.
It forced Finnis to miss his first ever Masters and Fleetwood turned to veteran Augusta National caddie Gray Moore.
Fleetwood went record his best ever finish in the major, tying for third behind Ludvig Aberg and Scottie Scheffler.
The condition put life and golf into perspective for Finnis.
When he returned to the bag before the Scottish Open, he reflected on the moment: "At the time, I didn't care how Tommy was doing or who was on the bag.
"I wasn't missing being out here because I was too sick. I wanted Tommy to do well, obviously, but it gives you a new perspective and I just wanted to get back to my kids, to see my kids properly again, because it was a frightening time."
Fleetwood was delighted to have Finnis back and said the fact that he was healthy was 'the main thing'.
Though in his typical dry sense of humour joked: "I wonder if caddying for me gave Ian heart problems."
More about Ian Finnis
Finnis is the tallest caddie on the PGA Tour, standing at 6-foot-7. Fleetwood is 5ft 8in.
He lives in Crosby with his wife, former England football goalkeeper and current TV analyst, Rachael Finnis-Brown, and his two children.
He is known for his larger-than-life character which has made him one of the most popular caddies on Tour.
The pair met when they were teenagers playing amateur golf in the northwest of England.
Finnis was unable to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional golfer, instead, he became an assistant professional at Formby Hall in Southport.
Fleetwood turned pro in 2010 and did well but by the end of 2015, he began to struggle and felt the need for change.
He called Finnis, and the pair began working together temporarily, and then during 2016 their results together were impressive.
Fleetwood finished the DP World Tour in 2016 with four top-10 finishes and would go on to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January 2017.
Fleetwood and Finnis have enjoyed three Ryder Cups and counting so far together.
The golfer's record in the biennial contest is 7-5-3.
