Tiger Woods has confirmed he will now not be playing in this week's Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour.

Woods, 49, took to social media to confirm his latest update.

The 15-time major champion last week announced he would be returning to compete on the PGA Tour at the 2025 Genesis Invitational from 13-16 February, an event that supports his Tiger Woods Foundation.

It was initially a suprising announcement to many PGA Tour fans, especially given he had just lost his mother Kultida.

But several days later Woods confirmed of the eve of the Genesis Invitational that he will not be playing in the tournament because he needs more time to process the death of his mother.

"I planned to tee it up this week, but Iโ€™m just not ready," wrote Woods.

"I did my best to prepare, knowing itโ€™s what my Mom would have wanted, but Iโ€™m still processing her loss.

"Thanks to everyone who has reached out.

"I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Momโ€™s passing."

Woods has been replaced in the field by Jake Knapp.

The Genesis Invitational has been switched from its usual venue Riviera CC over to Torrey Pines as a result of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.

Woods has not played in an official PGA Tour event since missing the cut at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon last July.

He played in last year's Genesis Invitational but was forced to withdraw through illness during the second round.

Woods went on to play in all four majors but he missed the cut in three of them and finished last of those that made the weekend at The Masters.

The former World No.1 did return to competition just before Christmas alongside his son Charlie Woods in the annual PNC Championship.

Team Woods performed admirably, finishing runner-up to Team Langer in Florida.

As Woods states in his latest post, he is expected to turn up at Torrey Pines later in the week.

It remains to be seen whether Woods will play in any PGA Tour events before the start of The Masters from April 10-13.
